One Shot (4 of 5)

ONE SHOT – TRUTH

I let go of the door handle and waited. If this vision is true, FBI is on the other side of this door.
“Selena?” I called. No reply. “Chief?” I said calmly. No reply. “I know you’re there. What have you done with Selena? Why are you setting me up?” I asked.
“You are impressive.” He finally said. “Maybe it was a bad idea to prevent your parents from killing you.”
“What?”
“Oh you didn’t know?” He started to laugh. “Let me guess, Selena told you that they were protecting you, didn’t she.” He started laughing harder. “Whether you go outside or not, there is no escape for you. You’re in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by FBI agents. Before you die, here’s a secret. When your parents found out that I wanted to employ you, they didn’t try to protect you… They tried to kill you! The one that killed your parents is Selena!”
“You’re lying! My mother hid me from you. I saw my parents tortured and killed by your men!” I shouted.
“Are you sure about that?” That’s when it hit me.

“Hide here until I tell you to come out.” Mother told me.
“Where are you going?” I asked her.
“We’ll be right here.” Tears streamed down her face. “I’m so sorry, Lamar.” She said as she hugged me. “Please forgive us.”
She let me go and closed the door. I started to hear guns being loaded and crying.
“It’s alright.” That’s Father’s voice. “We’re doing this because we must.”
Then a loud thud came as the door to the room was kicked open.
“Where is he, Alex!?” That’s Selena… She’s angry…
“Stay out of this Selena!” Mother shouted.
“He’s your son! I will not standby and let you kill him!!”
“And what will you do to stop us? Do you have it in you to kill us?” Father said. It was silent for a while. “I didn’t think so.” BOOM! A gun went off. I could hear Selena yelling in pain. “We must do this now, Jackie!”
“Alex, I beg of you, please don’t do this!!” Selena pleaded. I could hear her crying. What is going on?
“He’s going to kill us all one day. We have to do this!” Mother said.
“You don’t!”
“One more word and I will end your life.” Father told Selena.
“Please, Alex! Jackie, let him go!”
“Let’s do this, Jackie.”
I just knew guns were being pointed in my direction. Am I going to die? I jumped and covered my ears as I heard multiple gun shots. Two bodies hit the ground and I could hear Selena crying. I was scared. I didn’t know what to do. Moments later, the door opened. Selena looked at me, blood spewing from her shoulder where she was shot. She picked me up and before we could make it out the house, it was surrounded by more people.
“Shit!” She said.
“What’s going on, Selena?” I asked.
“We’re in danger.” She said as she looked around for a place to run to. She then dropped to the floor, grunting from the pain.
“Selena!?” I called.
“I’m sorry, Lamar. I don’t think I’m going to be able to get us out of this.” She said to me.
“You’re not going to die…” I told her.
At that moment, the front door was kicked in. I grabbed Selena’s gun and shot each and every person that came in…..

“No…” I said as I dropped to my knees… “That can’t be…”
“Selena may have protected you then,” Chief began, “but she can’t protect you now. You’re too skilled to keep alive.”
“Where is she?” I asked.
“Most likely dead by now… and you will soon join her.” I could hear banging on the door. “Seems your time is up.”
“Mark my words, Chief.” I said as I stood up. “I will kill you.”
I took my earpiece out and dropped it on the floor. I turned around and started running back towards the center of the warehouse. I checked my ammunition… I need more. I started searching all of the dead men and taking ammo that they had. What can I do? I then grabbed my phone and turned it on. Immediately after it booted up, a call came through. I answered it.
“One Shot, it’s me.” It was Selena.
“Selena! Where are you? Are you okay?” I asked with extreme concern.
“I’m fine. I’m going to get you out of there. There’s an underground passageway 200 ft to the right of your position. Head there and run to the end of that passageway. Take a right, run 600 ft, make a left, run 300 ft, and take the ladder to the ground level. I’ll be there.”
“Copy.”
I hung up with her and immediately did as she said, running as fast as I could. In 5 minutes, I was at the top of the ladder, peaking my head out of the manhole. I saw Selena’s car but I also saw FBI vehicles closing in. I quickly got out of the hole and ran to her car. I jumped in and she sped away.
“FUCK!! That son of a bitch!!!” She said angrily as she banged on the steering wheel. I looked at her and saw blood on her arm.
“Were you shot?”  I asked her.
“Scathed.” She replied. I ripped her sleeve to expose the wound. It wasn’t horrible but I did bandage it up to stop the bleeding.
“What happened?” I finally asked.
“After you completed the mission, Chief had his men tie me up. The target was his last competitor. With competition completely out of the way, he no longer needed me or you. I never thought he would attempt something so foolish!”
“Is it true that my parents were trying to kill me?” She immediately looked at me with a look of shock and sadness. Before she could reply, we started taking fire. Selena looked around, “the FBI is no longer pursuing us. It’s now the organization.”
“That means I can shoot back.” I said as I rolled down the window.
Three cars were pursing us. I held my handguns and hung out the window as I took aim. I shot three times and watched all three cars crash into each other due to the deaths of the drivers. I reentered the car and rolled up my window.
“Even with moving targets at high speeds you’re still deadly.” Selena commented.
“We need to get home. Olivia is most likely in danger.” I said as I reloaded my guns.
“You’re most likely right.” She agreed.

We took the long way home to ensure we weren’t being followed. As we pulled in, everything seemed quiet. The men we had posted outside were no longer there. With guns in hand, I crept to the front door. I checked to see if it was still locked, which it was. I put my thumb on the scanner and opened the door. The entire house was dark. I cautiously walked into the house, checking all corners. After checking all of the first level, I proceeded upstairs. I saw a light flash in my room. I approached the door, slowly opened it and saw Olivia sleep on my bed. The TV was on, which was the cause of the flashing light. Selena came up behind me.
“Everything is clear.” She assured me.
“Where are the men that we had posted here?” I wondered.
“Considering they couldn’t get in, they could have waited until we disarmed the system. Stay on alert.” Selena went to her room and started to get some essentials together. I started to do the same. I approached Olivia and sat down next to her. She immediately woke up.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” I said softly.
“I’ve never been so happy to see you.” She immediately embraced me. I hugged her back. Selena came to the door.
“We’re safe for now but be ready to go in 25 minutes. I’m going to get our travel plans together.”
“Yes, ma’am.” I replied. She closed the door and headed downstairs.
“What’s going on?” Olivia asked.
“Our employer is trying to kill us. We need to get out of town tonight.”
“Couldn’t they be on their way here?” She asked.
“Selena didn’t provide our real address for our files. They’re on the other side of town right now but they could find us quickly.” I stood up and she grabbed my arm.
“There’s a chance you could die, isn’t there?” She asked in a very sad and scared tone.
“I won’t let that happen.” I told her.
She looked into my eyes and I knew she saw my determination. There was something about this moment, whether it was the look in her eyes or the way that she was looking at me. It was an arousing moment that both of us were feeling. She pulled me to her and started kissing me. I started undressing her as I kissed her back. Using her feet, she pulled down my pants and boxers, impressing the hell out of me. As I entered her, she moaned and dug her nails in my back. I don’t think I wanted her as badly as I did right now. We rolled around on the bed and she got on top of me, riding me with such intensity. Her moans serenaded the room. I can feel her dripping all over me with each orgasm. Then her phone rang….
“Hello?” She answered, still riding me. “Are you sure?” She asked with a slight bit of affliction as I started to really hit her spot. “Ok.” She hung up the phone and started to have another orgasm and, that time, so did I. “Oh my God…” She said as she tried to catch her breath.
“I know, right.” I added, also trying to catch my breath.
“I think I’ll never need sex again…” She kissed my lips. “You can die now…”
At that moment, she tried to stab me in the throat with a knife that unsheathed from her phone. I caught her hand a mere millimeter before the knife touched my throat. I attempted to stab her in the throat with a knife that was in my hand the whole time and she grabbed my arm when the knife was a mere inch away from her throat. I rolled her onto her back. She locked her legs around me, squeezing tightly. I winced a little but tried to fight it off. I knocked her phone out her hand and started to choke her. She tried to swing and scratch at my face but I was out of her reach. She then let me go and kicked my chest, pushing me off her. She started coughing and trying to breath. I looked at her, waiting to see what she’d do.
“Do you mind if we get dressed before continuing?” She asked.
“Not at all.” I agreed.

“We need to get home. Olivia is most likely in danger.” I said as I reloaded my guns.
“You’re most likely right.” She agreed. She then sighed. “Actually, you’re wrong.”
“What do you mean?” I wondered.
“Lamar, there’s something you should know.” I looked at her as she hesitated talking. “Olivia is not who you think she is.”  I started to expect the worse. “She is an assassin as well… In fact, not just any assassin.” She turned and looked at me, “she’s Cut Throat.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa….” I said in disbelief, “I thought Cut Throat was a guy?”
“Nope.”
“And you’re saying that Olivia is the most deadly assassin in the world?”
“I am.”
“What…”
“Before you ask,” She began, cutting me off in anticipation of my next question. “After the organization secured you, memories were implanted. I was against the whole thing but agreed to it only if the memories of your parents were altered. I thought it would be too damaging for you to live on, thinking your parents wanted to kill you. Chief was worried about my loyalty so he assigned Cut Throat to watch over me.”
“If all of these memories were altered, why did I recall those and not my original memories to begin with?” I asked in confusion.
“Right now you’re pretty unsure of what’s real and fake. Everything that occurred between you and Olivia is real. It all really happened except she’s not as innocent. The attack at the train station was designed to be your first test to see if you were truly able to be an assassin or if it was all a fluke. You failed.”
“So I should have died that night…”
“Yes, but you didn’t. I pleaded with Chief to give you another chance. He reluctantly agreed but when you awoke, you didn’t know who you were. When you became Brandon, that’s when the true killer awoke in you.”
“The attack at the train station essentially killed Lamar and awoke Brandon.” I concluded.
“Yes, also bringing about the birth of One Shot.” She continued. “Naturally, I was afraid of what would happen to you so I insisted that you needed me and would only cooperate with me. I had to make you believe it first before I could even attempt to convince Chief. You didn’t know who I was, but I think you did subconsciously, allowing you to immediately trust me. Together, we were able to convince Chief to allow us to stay together.”
“But he didn’t trust you, which is why he assigned Cut Throat to watch over you.” I stated.
“No, I actually didn’t know that I was still being watched until I saw her in the house today.” She admitted.
“So that’s why you had that look…” This was all too much to believe. “Wait, did I really kill her father?”
“Yes. It was her idea in fact. She now takes over that gang.”
“Was it her idea to have me killed afterwards?” I wondered.
“Doubtful. I’m not sure what the agreement is between Chief and Cut Throat but when we get home, we’ll quickly find out.”
“What do you mean?”
“If the guards are no longer there, they may rely on her to kill you. If that’s the case, you need to be on full alert.”
As I sat there and took everything in, I started to feel a sharp pain in my heart. It felt like a knife was piercing through it. In fact, I think a tear fell down my right eye.
“Do I have to kill her?” I asked, knowing the answer.
“I’m sorry, Lamar. I know you love her and honestly, I can’t say if her feelings for you are genuine. The only thing I can say with absolute certainty is that she can kill you with no hesitation and no mercy.”
“Understood…”

“Before we continue,” I began as we just about finished getting dressed, “did you actually love me?”
“Does it matter?” She asked.
“Yes.” I said with no hesitation. We looked into each other’s eyes as I waited for her to reply.
“Yes, I do.” She replied. It was only for an instant, but I could see the emotion in her face as she said that. Wait… she said she do… Present tense.
“Why did you agree to kill me?” I wondered.
“Because of that fact. It’s because I love you that I must kill you.”
At that moment, she threw a knife at me, which I barely avoided a fatal wound, but she still caught part of my neck. I pulled out a gun and shot at her. She barely avoided a fatal shot, but still caught part of her neck…the first time I failed to kill someone with one shot. I can’t be surprised considering who this is. She continued to charge towards me and started throwing more knives. I started shooting all of the knives away. She kicked the gun out of my hand and threw a right hook at my face. I blocked that attack and threw a right hook at her. She blocked that attack and we started going back and forth. Neither one of us was landing a clean hit. I was barely able to keep up with her. In fact, I started to feel weak and dizzy like I was drugged. I had to give myself some space. As I kept blocking her attacks, I found an opening and was able to do an open hand, palm strike to the chest. She flew back and landed on the bed, gasping for air. I dropped to a knee, breathing heavily. I looked and saw a knife that was in my stomach. When did that get there? I looked up and saw her sitting up… My eyesight was getting blurry…
“It’s finally taking effect.” She stated, still trying to get her breathing under control. “You managed to shoot all my knives, except one. That one has a poison tip.” She stood up and slowly started to approach me. “With our fight, the poison circled your body quicker. You’ll be dead in 30 seconds.” She approached me and knelt down in front of me. “I’m sorry, One Shot.”
She kissed my lips softly. I fell on my back, struggling to breathe. She stood up and started to walk away. I then grabbed my other gun that was close by and shot her in the shoulder. She hit the floor, yelling in pain. I slowly got on my feet and walked to her with gun in hand.
“H…how…are you still alive?” She asked as she held her shoulder.
“Selena gave me the antidote to your poison. You were better off finishing the job yourself.” I stood over her, pointing my gun right at her head.
“I guess this is it.” She said calmly as tears dropped to the sides of her face. My heart started pounding. I tried to pull the trigger. I tried and tried and tried….
“FUCK!!!” I yelled as I dropped my arm and started pacing. My eyes watered up as I knew what I should do but couldn’t do it. “Why, Olivia? Why did you have to bring things to this point?”
“I don’t know…” She replied. I quickly turned around and again pointed my gun at her. Anger was in my eyes and I tightly held my gun in attempts to pull the trigger. “I swear to you that everything was real for me.” She cried. “I never believed I could feel love, but you taught that to me.” She then closed her eyes and swallowed. “But I had to put that to the side and carry out my mission…” She turned her head to the side. “Now you have to do the same.” She said softly.
I stood there as an internal battle waged on inside of me. I then shot 3 rounds: one on each side of her and the other at the top of her head… all about an inch away from hitting her. I threw my gun to the side and turned my back.
“I can’t kill you. Even though I know I should, it’s not in me to kill the woman I love.” I looked down and then slightly turned my head towards her. “If you feel that you still need to complete your mission, I’m not going to fight you anymore. Do what you must do.” I started to walk forward and towards the door.
“Lamar?” She called as I grabbed the door handle. I turned around and saw her holding a knife as she stood. She started to take small steps towards me, limping due to the shoulder wound. As she stood a foot away from me, I waited for her knife to penetrate my body. “Please get this bullet out of my shoulder.” She said as she offered the knife to me. We looked into each other’s eyes knowing at that moment, a decision was made. I took the knife from her, picked her up, and carried her to the bed. She winced in pain as I lied her down on her stomach.
“How did you get into this life anyway?” I asked.
“Is this really the time?” She snapped back.
“Just a little question to get your mind off what’s going to happen next.” I said as I took a lighter and went across the knife with it. She took a deep breath.
“My back story isn’t too much different from yours. Chief discovered my talents with knives and wanted to recruit me. The only difference being my father was extremely willing to hand me over. Thank you for killing the son of a bitch for me!” She stated. “It was only a matter of time before I took out the bastard myself.”
“So who is Chief to you?” I asked, still prepping the area around the wound.
“A father figure. I probably know him better than most.”
“What will happen to you if he finds out you failed your mission?”
“Probably have me killed.” She said calmly.
“I won’t allow that to happen.” I proclaimed. I grabbed a nearby towel and placed it in front of her. “Bite down on it as necessary. This will hurt.”
“I’m ready.” She said as she bit down on the towel.
I took the knife and started to pry into the wound. She started yelling and moving. I held her down as much as possible. I continued to pry into the wound until I found the bullet. I grabbed the tweezers that I had prepped and extracted the bullet. By this point she had already passed out. I started to clean and dress the wound when the door opened and Selena looked in.
“Is she dead?” Selena asked.
“No…. I couldn’t kill her.” I replied. “She didn’t kill me either, so she may work with us.”
“I guess we’ll find out. We’re leaving in 10 minutes.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She closed the door as I finished dressing Olivia’s wound. I then focused on my own injuries and tended to them. I stood up and started getting my stuff together for our departure when I noticed her phone on the floor. I picked it up, unlocked it and looked at the last number that called her. I took my phone and tethered it to hers to track where that call took place. I texted the address to Selena. 3 minutes later, she came to my room.
“I know where this is.” She said as she walked in the room. “This is the Chief’s safe house. Well guarded and almost impossible to get in.”
“Do you think he’s still there?” I wondered.
“There’s no way he’ll leave without confirmation from her that you’re dead.”
“Let’s end this.” I stated as I stood up.
“What do you want to do with her?”
“Bring her with us. Maybe we can get her to help us.” I suggested. Selena looked at her and then nodded.
“Let’s go now.”
I nodded in agreement. I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder. I picked up Olivia and headed to the car. I lied her down in the backseat and sat in the front. Selena started driving towards Chief’s safe house which was about 3 hours away.
After an hour on the road, Olivia woke up. She sat up and looked around.
“We’re heading to Chief’s safe house?” She asked, knowing the answer.
“We are.” I replied. I climbed in the back seat and sat next to Olivia. “Are you okay?” She swayed her hair behind her right ear and nodded. “You said Chief is like a father to you so I’m not going to ask you to betray him.” I touched her hand, unsure of how she’ll respond to my touch. She immediately grasped my hand.
“I’ll help any way I can.” She said softly. “You promised that you wouldn’t leave my side.”
“Still holding me to that promise, huh?” I said with a smile.
“There are a lot of promises I’m holding you to.”
“Like what?”
“You promised to take me on a cruise; to travel around the world..” She looked down at our hands as we caressed each other’s fingers. She then looked up at me and said, “you also promised to make me your wife…” She grinned in a way that I never seen before.
“That’s a promise that I would be more than happy to keep.” I told her. I placed my hand on her cheek and wiped the tears that were forming and slowly falling. “You know, I really did think you were going to kill me.” I stated with a smile.
“When the order came down, I really thought I could.” She said with a smile. “But after we made love, I no longer felt that I could.”
“I find that hard to believe considering you came close.” I stated.
“I had to fight you.” She said, half laughing. “I couldn’t be with a man that I could easily kill.”
“Oh is that the prerequisite?” I chuckled.
“Yes it is!” She started smiling, glowing in the manner that made me fall in love with her to begin with. “I really did think you were going to kill me though.” I smiled and kissed her softly on the lips. “Thank you, Lamar.”
“No, it’s me that should be thanking you.” I said.
We kissed again and then embraced. I couldn’t imagine my life without her just like I couldn’t imagine the next few minutes without her in my arms. She pulled me to her, inviting me to lie down on her lap. Almost immediately, I fell asleep.
“Are you sure you’re going to do this?” Selena asked Olivia.
“In a million years, I would have never thought that I’d ever find a man worth dying for. I never thought things would end up this way.” She said softly as she caressed my face.
“I’ve known you for a long time, Olivia. You’ve been on a lot of missions like this. What makes this different? How do I know we can trust you?” She asked.
“Because Lamar gave me the choice to kill him and I declined.”
“That’s good enough for me.” Selena smiled. “Is there an easy way to do this?”
“No, there’s not, but with him, anything is possible.” Olivia proclaimed.

I woke up as the car stopped. I sat up and saw nothing but trees. Olivia was sleep and Selena seemed to be doing last second preparations.
“What’s going on?” I asked her.
“We’re about as close as we can get.” She replied. Olivia woke up and started stretching. “If I remember correctly, we’re about 400 feet away from the first wave of guards.”
“I guess it’s time.”
We all got out the car and started loading up. Olivia had an assortment of knives loaded all over her, but also had a sniper rifle. I had a sniper rifle and an assortment of guns. Selena had a few guns as well. The plan was for her to lead the assault and we support her from a distance until we get to the house.
We started heading towards the house quickly but quietly. I began to get a feeling that we were closing in on the first wave of guards. I posted up and started looking through the scope on my sniper rifle. I eyed 7 targets.
“I have 7 targets.” I stated.
“I have 6.” Olivia added. She was posted up about 200 feet to the left.
“Standby.” Selena said. We waited for two minutes. “Take em out.”
“Copy.” We both said. We started shooting. 13 shots… 13 deaths. “Proceeding…” We both said.
We continued moving forward to the next wave.
“I have 10 targets.” I stated.
“I have 4.”
“Standby.” Selena said again. We waited another two minutes. “I have 4 targets at my 12 o’clock. Take em out.”
“Copy.” We both said. We started shooting. 18 shots… 18 deaths. “Proceeding.”
We had two more waves before getting to the difficult part. 35 more guards were expected to be close by. 35 guards were killed within 5 minutes. We approached the entrance to the safe house and set down our sniper rifles. I held a handgun in each hand and looked at Selena and Olivia. We all nodded and proceeded to enter the home. Chief and about 50 guards with assault rifles pointing right at us stood on the second level of the home.
“Seems this is checkmate.” Chief said.
The three of us looked around and couldn’t see a way out. I looked at Olivia and saw the lack of fear in her eyes. She looked at me with nothing but love and the willingness to die with me.
“I’m not breaking my promise.” I told her.

Even though this situation looks really bad…
