The Owner of My Soul Vol 2: Chapter III and Chapter IV
CHAPTER III
MEMORIES & WORK
5 MONTHS
BEFORE ANDREW’S FUNERAL
It
was a beautiful night. It was about 73 degrees, clear skies, and a full moon.
Sydney and I were on the rooftop along with Will and Candace. We were lying
back in my recliner; looking up at the stars and moon with my arms across Sydney ’s chest. Our
fingers were interlocked, caressing each other and playing footsie. Can you
tell we really love each other?
“Kenny?”
She said softly. I always loved the way she says my name.
“What’s
up?” I replied, also softly.
“Did
you ever have a crush on me when we were kids?”
“A
lil. Then again you were so much like a tomboy I didn’t really like you beyond
a friend. Technically, you’re still quite a tomboy, but beyond lady like as
well.”
“Hmmm.”
“Did
you have a crush on me?”
“For
a lil while.”
“A
lil while?” I repeated.
“Yea,
before it turned into falling in love with you.” She smiled. “Can I ask you
somethin serious though?”
“You
can ask me anything you want.”
“Have
you ever cheated on me besides what I know?”
“Look
at me.” She turned to the right and tilted her head back. I looked in her eyes.
“No. Not only did I not want to, but I never felt the need to. I did let
Monique get to me and I’m sorry for that. Otha then her, there’s been no one.”
I touched her cheek and then her lips. “I belong to you and only you. I’m your
one and only and you’re my one and only.” I kissed her and looked into her
eyes. “As long as I’m alive, it’ll remain that way.”
“I
believe you.” She kissed me and then turned back around, holding on to my hands
tighter. “I have this fear that you’ll be taken away from me or vice versa. I
trust you so much, yet I’m scared.”
“You
have nothing to be afraid of. I’d do anything to ease your mind. All you have
to do is ask.”
“I
know, baby.” I held her tighter as we continued to look at the sky. “Have you
ever thought about leaving Cleveland ?”
“Yea,
then I realized everything I built and will inherit is here, so there’s no
point.” I replied.
“You
don’t want to start your own legacy?”
“I
did, but Dad did that and wants someone to take over it. I don’t want to
disappoint him, so I’ll just stamp my legacy with his empire. The thought
crossed my mind years ago. It’s funny you asked.”
“Yea.”
“Shit,
I meant to ask you, what’s goin on with you and C-Lo?” I asked.
“It’s
mostly little things. For one, you know we never got along when we were kids?”
“I
didn’t know that.”
“Yea,
he felt like I was putting an axe between the four of you.” She stated.
“Are
you serious?”
“Yea.
Like I wasn’t part of the click or something.”
“That’s
crazy.”
“Yea
but I don’t think he’s over it yet. I think he still may feel like me and
Candace being here is going to put a damper on y’all relationship or something.
So most of the time when I’m here, I think he tries to start shit wit me in
hopes I wouldn’t come so much.”
“You
don’t even see him that often.”
“I
agree. This last scuffle was about the kitchen that I just cleaned after the
party we threw.”
“That
was a good ass party too.” Will said, only hearing the last three words. We
looked at him and smiled. “My bad, y’all go head.” We shook our heads and went
back as we were.
“So
I’m putting the rest of the food into the refrigerator and I turn around and
find Chris putting more plates and glasses in the sink, not the dishwasher. The
only thing I said was could you please put it in the dishwasher. He smirked and
was about to leave. I repeated it and he did nothing. After that, we started
arguing. Like I said, small shit.”
“Yea,
really.”
“Don’t
get me wrong, I love him like a brother, but I also hate him like a brother.”
She said.
“I
guess that sums up y’all relationship.”
“What
happened after you found out both your sister and Chris cheated on each other?
What did you tell them?”
“Just
so I’m not feeding you pointless info, I’ll tell ya what happened after that.
I, for one, was just gon leave it alone. What they ended up doin was deciding
to go to marriage counseling. Seems there were more problems then we knew
about. Several people know this secret goin around the family. Regina found out she was
pregnant last week. She says Chris aint the father, but that’s a lie. She ended
up tellin Will the truth and obviously Will told me. Somehow Toya found out and
she didn’t take it too well. That’s what made them go to marriage counseling
cuz Toya was goin to divorce him.”
“Wow.
What’s Regina
goin to do?”
“She’s
goin to have it but not inform Chris about it.”
“So
are they still in marriage counseling?”
“Somewhat.
They go every other week or something like that. I honestly feel their marriage
is on the last leg.”
“Damn.
That’s crazy.”
“Yea,
it is.” I agreed.
“Ya
know what, there’s something I always wanted to ask you, off subject. You’re
this big universal superstar. What celebrities did you experience?”
“Truthfully,
every major female star I worked with. Every female co-star got to see why I
was the G I am. When I did charity events with the WNBA, I fucked the entire USA
women’s basketball team. Not at once, but damn near.”
“Really?”
“Yep…you
know most of them are bi?”
“I
did not know that.” She laughed. “Who else?”
“You
know the first lady, Heather Jacks?”
“You
didn’t?”
“Three
times.”
“Are
you serious?”
“As
a heart attack.”
“How’d
you do that?” She was in disbelief.
“We
had just won the gold again and the President was out of the country. Instead,
we met the first lady. We all had dinner with her and out of nowhere she slips
me a note to meet her at 2 am
in front of the White House gates. At exactly 2, she picks me up in a limo and
we go to a hotel. 5 star hotel at that.”
“Isn’t
she like 31?”
“33.
Very sexy. She’s quite the freak too.”
“She’s
like half black and half Chinese, right?”
“Japanese.”
“I’m
blown away. I’mma move on though. What other ones?”
“Ummm….
Let me think.” I started thinking real hard. “The top five women’s tennis
players. They weren’t top five before me, but they did start rising after me.
I’m not going to give my theories, but I am goin to give myself a pat on the
back.” She started laughing.
“You’re
something else.”
“I’m
very sure there’s more, but I can’t think of em.”
“When
did these occur?”
“35%
was before I went back to a public school and the other 65% was during my
relationship with Monique.”
“So
you did cheat on her a lot.”
“Well,
when you’re with someone and you have a gut feeling they’re cheating on you,
you kinda fall into this I don’t give a fuck mode.”
“My
hat is definitely off to you.”
“Yea,
well I had to take my hat off to Will.” I admitted.
“Why
is that?” She asked.
“You
remember that bomb ass girl in that People magazine.”
“I
don’t necessarily know of a “bomb ass” girl.” She repeated.
“She
was referred as a world renowned virgin. Everyone who tried was shot down.”
“Oh
yea, I remember. What about her?”
“Well,
Will and I had a chance to meet the young lady. He let me spit first. I got
shot down. He put his attempts in and in about 2 hours tops, she was no longer
a virgin.”
“Are
you serious?”
“Beyond.
I had no idea. I spotted her and started talkin to her. I seal the deal,
thinking I was the first. She stand up and already limpin. I knew what was up
afta that.”
“What
did you do?”
“I
did what any self respecting man with a hurt pride would do when they no longer
was goin to take a girls virginity due to soreness.”
“Which
is what?”
“Fuck
her in the ass.” She started cracking the hell up. “It took about 30 mins to
get started, so I knew she neva did it before. Will was sayin she may have been
a virgin, but sucked dick like a pro.”
“Y’all
are terrible people.”
“We
may be, but we have no regrets. Can you say you have no regrets?”
“I
could, but it wouldn’t mean anything.” She proclaimed. She started smiling as
she reminisced. “I remember I used to look out of my window when I was a lil
girl and look up at the sky. Every time I did, I was wondering if you were too.
There were countless nights I had dreams that we were together again; playing
and getting into fights.”
“Those
were the days. Then again, we still do that now.” I said. I noticed her smile
go away.
“I
just felt so alone out there. I had friends, but I didn’t have my friends, ya
know.”
“I
feel ya. When my mother left, I alienated my father for the first three weeks.
He tried his hardest to strengthen our relationship but I felt it was his fault
the shit happened. After a while, I started to feel it was my mother’s fault.
Then she started comin by and I no longer put blame on anyone. I hated the
situation, but knew there was nothin I could do to change it. It was the time
Will and I really became close. Aunt Keasha left around the same time my mother
did. We leaned on each other for comfort, morale, motivation and overall support.
We became brothers. I’m sure you and Candace did the same.”
“We
did. We don’t ever want to be separated either. You already know our WNBA
story, but beyond that, I had a huge job opportunity out here about 4 years
before we actually came. She didn’t want to move back here yet, so we didn’t. I
waited on her for four years and when she was finally ready, we came.”
“Then
you can definitely relate to me. I try not to go anywhere without that man and
he tries not to do anything without me.”
“Yea,
I’m wit you.” She kissed my arm. “Do you ever think we’ll be able to break away
and it just be us living together.”
“We
could if we want to, but honestly, I wouldn’t want to.”
“Me
neither. I think it’ll be boring.” She agreed. My phone started vibrating. I didn’t
move. “You gon answer that?”
“I
guess.” I grabbed it off the table and answered it. “What it do?”
“Kenny
Johnson, this is Wilson Medwa. I’m the Director of Sales at Tokyo Eyes, Inc. I
apologize for calling you so late. We had a time difference issue.”
“It’s
quite alright. What can I do for you Mr. Medwa?” I asked.
“We’ve
received your proposal and would like to personally accept it only if a few
terms will be changed.”
“What
in particular?”
“We
would like 2.5 trillion US dollars, retain our name, keep 75% of our profits,
and give only 16.5% of our businesses’ profits instead of 20%.”
“I
see. Now what kind of production can we expect in the next 5 years?”
“As
promised, we’ll produce 200 brand new products in 5 years. That’s the minimum.”
“Okay.
You have a deal Mr. Medwa. Email me the contract and I’ll send you an email
confirmation for your money.”
“Thank
you, Mr. Johnson and we look forward to working with you.”
“No,
thank you. Have a good day.” I hung up.
“What
was that about?” Sydney
asked.
“We
just purchased Tokyo Eyes, Inc for 2.5 trillion.”
“TE?
Isn’t that the top electronics company in Japan ?”
“Not
just Japan, but in the entire Eastern Hemisphere.”
“Damn.
Congratulations.”
“Thank
you. So, where were we?” I asked. She moved my arms, sat up, turned around, and
looked me in the eyes.
“I
was about to say how much I love you.”
“You
were bout to say it or show it?”
“Maybe
both.”
“Maybe
both?” I repeated.
“You’ve
made me the luckiest woman alive and I wish I could say I’m worth it.”
“Maybe
you should have a reality check. Most of the time it’s me that needs to make
sure I’m good for you.” She smiled and looked down.
“Kenny,
you and I….” When she looked back up, I kissed her, catching her off guard. I
then embraced her and we continued to passionately……intimately….. sexually……erotically…..kiss!
HA!
TWO WEEKS
AFTER ANDREWS FUNERAL
I
found myself in a restaurant. It looked to be around 2000 hrs. I looked around
and saw Will. I joined him at the table.
“Sorry
I took so long.” I told him. “What’s goin on?”
“Let’s
be real, man. Hanging out wit Beyonce and Monique has struck up some old
feelings.” He stated.
“Yea,
I won’t deny that.”
“But
I can’t help but wonder where the hell our fiancĂ©es are.”
“I
think about that every day.”
“I’ve
been wondering if Beyonce and Monique are up to this and just putting on a
front.” He assumed.
“I
thought that may have been possible, but Monique never took advantage of me in
my most vulnerable state. I think she may be legit this time. I’m not goin to
rule it out, but at this time they’re playin it good.” A waitress approached us
and gave us menus. We started looking through them.
“Could
they really be dead?” Will asked. I looked up at him and saw three emotions:
pain, fear, and hope. Hope was so small that mostly pain and fear could be
seen. “What if we’re playin ourselves and we’re the ones in denial?”
“At
this point, I’m not willing to deny that. I strongly feel they’re alive. I
don’t think there’s anything anyone can say to change my mind.”
“I
really hope you’re right.” Will stated.
“I
really hope I am too.” I agreed. The waitress returned, ready to take our
order. I looked up and saw Sydney
at a table with Candace. “Hold on.” I got up and damn near ran to her.
“Sydney , is that you?”
“Kenny!”
She had a big smile on her face.
“Damn
I can’t believe it’s you.” I hugged her and kissed her. She tried to stop me
but I kept kissing her. I finally stopped.
“Kenny,
I’m not Sydney .”
“What?”
“I’m
not here. Well, I’m here, but we’re not together yet.” She explained.
“What
are you saying?” I asked, confused.
“Baby,
you need to bring us together. You have to find me so we can be one again.”
“How?
I wouldn’t know where to begin. I don’t know what to do.” Tears streamed down
my cheeks.
“You
can. I know you can. You’re the most gifted man I’ve met. Use it to your
advantage.”
“I
don’t pick up anything though.”
“Are
you sure about that? We’re talking right now, aren’t we?”
“Then
why can’t you tell me where you are?”
“Cuz
I don’t know.” She replied. She looked around and then back at me. “I really
have no idea where I am.” She took my hand and placed it on her cheek. “Baby, I
need to be in your arms again. Find me. FIND ME!!!!”
I
popped up, dripping sweat. I wiped my face and noticed tears really did fall
from my eyes. I still had no idea what to do. I brought my feet to the floor
and buried my face in my hands. I then heard my blender going in the kitchen. I
stood up and peaked into the kitchen. Monique was making breakfast. She was
fully dressed. I closed my bedroom door and was kinda lost on why she was here.
Must have been drunk last night. I went into the bathroom and took a shower.
Fully
dressed, I came out my room and went into the kitchen.
“Morning,
sunshine.” Monique said to me.
“Morning.”
I looked at the food she cooked. “Were you here all night?”
“Remember,
I slept in your guest room. We all got really lit last night.” She replied.
“Nothing
happened, right? I mean I did wake up in my draws.”
“Honestly,
you actually went to sleep fully clothed. How you ended in your draws is beyond
me. If I do recall, when we were married, you tended to wake up and undress
yourself when you get hot.”
“Oh.
That’s quite possible.” I grabbed a plate and started putting food on it. “This
looks real good.” I looked at the blender. “What is that?”
“Fruit
shake. It’s healthy.” She poured me a glass. “Try it.” I looked at the glass
and then at her.
“It’s
not goin to kill me, drug me, or poison me, right?” I smiled.
“Of
course not.” She replied calmly. I grabbed the glass and sat down. I turned on
my dining room wall TV and turned to the local news. Normal morning routine. My
phone started vibrating.
“Will,
what’s happenin?” I answered.
“Big
K, what it do?” He replied.
“What
can I do for you?”
“I
got that email from Titan X Dynasty. The deal is goin through as originally planned.”
“You
got the file number?” I asked. I grabbed my tablet and logged into our
database.
“Yea,
it’s TX845-DY9930.” I entered it in and opened the file. I skimmed through it.
“Are
you looking at the file now?” I asked Will.
“Yea,
what ya think?”
“Everything
seems to be in order, but I think they’re asking for a little more then we’re
willing to give them.”
“I
thought that too. Don’t worry about it, I’ll make some adjustments.”
“It’s
your baby.” I assured him. “Bill down in software has assured me our software
upgrades will be ready by this afternoon. When do you want to release it?”
“When
you say ready, does that mean testing went well?” He asked.
“Yea,
we’ve received 100% approval and went into full production last month.”
“Well,
I guess at the end of the week. I don’t want to rush just yet.”
“I
agree. What time you goin in?” I looked at my watch. It was a quarter after 8 .
“I’ll
be leaving here in about an hour.” He stated.
“Fa
sho. You driving or you want me to?”
“I’ll
drive.”
“It’s
on. I’ll see ya in an hour.”
“Yep.”
I hung up wit him and continued eating.
“So
how is it being the man?” Monique asked me.
“A
lot of work.” I replied. “I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
“I
bought the issue of Fortune magazine with you and Will on the cover. That’s an
interesting article about y’all. Are you really trying to create an artificial
sun?”
“Trying.
Been trying for about 4 years. We get close but then we’re unable to sustain
stability. We’re tweaking though.” I looked through some more files on my tablet.
“I noticed your father’s company in Time. I’m sorry about what that article
said about y’all.”
“Thank
you, but I’m hoping with Beyonce and myself in the driver’s seat, we’ll be able
to get back on track.”
“Whoa,
whoa, whoa….when did y’all get complete control?”
“After
my parents divorced. Since they both started the company from the ground up,
they could either divide it or give us complete control. Since Mommy was
getting 2.5 billion dollars anyway, she had no desire to hold on to the
company.” She sat down next to me with her plate mostly finished. “She misses
you by the way.”
“Is
her cell phone number still the same?” I asked her.
“Yep.
She saw you and Sydney at your movie premier last year. She was goin to say
something to you, but couldn’t. She really gave me a reality check. My own
mother told me that Sydney
was making you happier then I ever could. That’s when I knew you were way out
of my league.” I looked up at her. She had a look of pain in her eyes. I felt
really bad.
“Monique,
I…..” My phone started ringing. “Hold on.” I grabbed my phone and answered it,
“yea.”
“K,
we have an emergency to take care of. How fast can you get ready?” Will asked
me.
“What’s
the emergency?” I said in surprise.
“Our
bank in EC was finally hit. They made a smooth getaway, but stole $25 million.”
“Holy
shit!” I yelled. I popped up and started getting my stuff together. “I’ll be
down in 2 minutes.”
“I’ll
be in the courtyard.” He said. We hung up and I started heading to the door.
“Are
you goin to be here all day or leaving?” I asked Monique.
“I’m
leaving right now.” She replied, getting all her stuff. “What’s goin on?”
“Well,
Will and I are bout to get our ass chewed at work, but otha then that, nothin.”
I stated, still scrambling. I finished getting my stuff and waited by the door.
Monique walked out and I locked up. We took the elevator down.
“Do
you want me to come by tonight?”
“If
you want. I don’t know how long my day will be, but after work I’m goin to my
parents. I should be back by 8 tonight.”
“I’ll
be here at 9.” She said.
“Iight.”
The elevator doors opened and we walked out the house. “Have a good day.” I
said to her.
“You
too.” She said back. I put my stuff in the back seat and got in. Will started
driving.
“So
when did this happen?” I asked him.
“This
morning. We just got word. It happened when three of our employees were opening
up. We’re guessing about 20 people did this cuz that’s the only way they could
take out security and overpower the employees.”
“Damn.”
“Yea,
so Dad called an emergency meeting.”
“Shit.”
“I’m
wit ya.” He turned on the radio and turned to CNN. It was already being talked
about. We just shook our head.
When
we got down to the main SJ building, reporters were everywhere. We got out the
car and tried to get thru as questions about the robbery were thrown at us. At
least that’s how it was at the beginning.
“Mr.
Johnson, do you feel responsible for the robbery?” One reporter asked.
“As
I’ve always done, I take full responsibility for anything regarding this bank.”
I replied.
“Are
you expecting civil suits from the families?” Another reporter asked.
“We
don’t expect that due to the insurance policy that every employee is given.”
Will replied.
“Do
you still think Sydney and Candace are alive?” A male reporter asked us. We
stopped walking and looked at him.
“What
the fuck you ask us?” I demanded. He started to say something, but I cut him
off. “Of course I still think they’re alive. That’s an asinine question to ask.
I should knock you the fuck out!” At that second, Will socked him in the jaw.
“Dumb
mothafucka!” Will said as we walked away. “Who else wanna know about how we
feel on the matter?” We looked around and heard nothing.
We
sat in our chairs in the Conference Room. We didn’t say anything and tried not
to look at anybody. When Dad and Uncle Tevin walked in, all of us stood up.
Uncle Tevin motioned and everyone sat down. They had drinks in their hands and
stood on one end of the room.
“About
3 months ago, I put a certain individual in charge of security for every single
SJ owned company in the world.” Dad began. “This individual was supposed to
ensure all our companies were safe around the clock and have them monitored
around the clock.”
“At
0509, that security was not only a non-factor, but it also leaves us to explain
to 10 different families why they’re going to have a funeral to attend.” Uncle
Tevin said.
“Let
me start off by saying,” Earl Frell began, “I think it’s very necessary to
start with the ‘I told you so’ as far as this bank goes. I said it wasn’t a
good idea and the wonder twins still ran with it.” Will and I gave him a look
but didn’t say anything. “Tevin, I told you countless times that this business
is too much for your son and nephew to handle without the proper experience.”
“Will,
Kenny, do y’all have anything to say?” Uncle Tevin asked us. We looked at him
and shook our heads.
“I
think some changes need to be made.” Rust Klips stated. “It’s obvious that
certain individuals are not making the right decisions with the position they
have.”
“You
know what, Rust? You’re right.” Dad agreed. “Changes do need to occur. Tevin
and I have talked about this and we’re prepared to make changes.”
“Will,
Kenny.” Tevin called. We looked at them, anticipating a demotion. “I want to
say we’re sorry.” Tevin looked at Rust and Earl then back at us. “It seems your
plans have backfired. Putting faith in these two individuals caps the worse
mistake you’ve ever made.”
“WHAT?!”
Rust Klips said in outrage as he rose to his feet.
“SIT
DOWN BITCH!!!!” Dad yelled, taking a few steps toward him. Yea, he quickly sat
down. “You two were handpicked to ensure the security of these two places and
your detest for Will and Kenny was a deliberate act of rebellion. These two
took pity on the both of you and requested y’all have a task in this project
and this is how y’all repay them.”
“Kevin
and I were originally goin to go with Sanders and Pottier to be in charge, but
Will and Kenny pleaded with us.” Uncle Tevin admitted. He looked back at us.
“Sorry, fellas, but this is a mark on y’all record.” We nodded.
“Klips,
Frell, we expect your offices’ cleared out by the end of the day.” Dad stated.
“WHAT?!”
They both yelled.
“As
of 0509, you’re both fired.” Uncle Tevin stated. “You’re both dismissed.”
Security came in and escorted the men out. Will and I looked at each other in
disbelief. We both felt we should say something, but wasn’t sure what to say. I
finally spoke.
“Dad,
Uncle Tevin, isn’t this a bit hasty?” I said as I stood up. “Will and I are
responsible for putting the bank there. It was our guarantee. We should be…”
“Before
you finish, let me tell you the facts.” Dad interrupted. “You and I sat down
and discussed how we wanted this place guarded. We handed the plans to Klips
and Frell. We told them this is how it’s goin and they have the wish on
upgrading.”
“They
ended up downgrading.” Uncle Tevin added. “Your father and I mainly take the
heat for not keeping an eye on it. An entire army could attack this bank, but
the security system we wanted would still prove 100% effective. Since the
blueprint wasn’t followed, these two lose their jobs.” I nodded and sat back
down.
“Ladies
and gentlemen, we called this emergency meeting for more reasons then that.
That’s only the tip of the iceberg.” Dad continued. “We come to the realization
that some of our numbers are starting to get inconsistent and flaky.”
“It’s
time for a shake up.” Uncle Tevin said. “Sanders and Pottier, you two will take
their jobs.” They nodded. “Next week, we will be bringing in 8 new employees to
take charge of two other departments.”
“But
before that happens, we have to say something to 4 of the 40 men and women in
this room.” Dad stated. He looked around the room. “Based on performance and
handling of the tasks given; Risk, Withers, Lake ,
and Mulligan are all fired.” They looked at each other. “Before asking, let us
explain why.”
“Will,
what was in your last three evaluations of Risk and Lake ?”
Uncle Tevin asked Will. Will looked at him and then at Risk and Lake .
“Fails
to follow directions in a timely manner, questions my decisions, tends to leave
early without proper authorization, and doesn’t train newcomers adequately.”
Will replied.
“Tell
me, why do you have that memorized?” Uncle Tevin asked.
“It’s
the first time I had to write a negative eval.” Will replied.
“Congratulations,
y’all are his first negative eval.” Uncle Tevin said to Risk and Lake . “Kenny, enlighten everyone why Mulligan and Withers
are being fired.” I took a deep breath and looked at them.
“Cutting
funds without authorization, not finishing work by deadline, constantly late,
taking more breaks then allotted, using company money for personal purchases
and trips, not maintaining client records, and failing to pass recertification
tests.”
“Holy
shit!” Dad said brusquely. “Honestly, your ass should be rotting in jail. But
I’m only firing you because along with you is Jones, Monroe ,
Lucas, Gonzo, and Forest . All of you have been
caught with Mulligan and Withers. I expect y’all offices to be cleared out by
the end of the day.”
“Dismissed.”
Uncle Tevin said. Security came and got them as well. Uncle Tevin started
shaking. “Love shake ups.”
“Real
talk.” Dad sat down and looked at all his employees. “If we find out anyone is
doing anything that’s going to hurt this company, you’ll be fired on the spot.
I don’t care if it’s taking a paper clip that was goin to hold a contract. All
of us in this room have families and I hate to be the one responsible for you
having to tell your family that you no longer have a job. Tevin and I have to
tell families they’ve lost a loved one because of two individuals that failed
to follow orders. There’s a reason we’re where we are and y’all are where y’all
are. We have faith in the decisions we’ve made and our CEOs make. I don’t give
a damn what problems y’all have with em, let us know about it. If you undermine
us again, you will be fired.”
“And
we won’t be a reference.” Uncle Tevin added.
“Damn,
straight.” Everyone got a lil chuckle out of that. “On a brighter side, cuz I
hate ending a meeting on a downer, at the end of the week, we will be posting
position raises. Good news is everyone will have some form of a raise. The
mediocre news is some will be greater then others. Y’all have four days to
impress us. Good luck!”
“One
last thing before we get everyone out,” Uncle Tevin began, “our 30th
anniversary will be coming up next month. Be aware of all events. As you know,
we take that seriously. Anyone that doesn’t participate will be fired.”
“On
that note, everyone is dismissed.” Everyone got up and gathered their things.
“Well, except you two.” Dad said to Will and I. We sat back down and watched
everyone leave. Dad and Uncle Tevin closed the doors and sat closer to us.
“How
y’all holdin up?” Uncle Tevin asked.
“Ok,
I guess.” I replied.
“Yea,
we’re kinda just in disbelief. We really didn’t expect that to ever happen.”
Will said.
“That’s
not what we’re asking. Forget about work.” Dad said. “How are y’all really
holding up?”
“Oh.”
I caught on to what he was asking. “Overall, we’re lost.”
“We
have no idea what to do.” Will added.
“We
just feel powerless.” I added.
“Trust
us, we know what you mean.” Uncle Tevin said. “Look, we know what y’all are
goin through. I bet they’re appearing in y’all dreams and everything, huh?”
“Yea,
they are. What do we do though?” I asked.
“What
you have to do is find a connection avenue.” Dad told us.
“What
do you mean a connection avenue?” Will asked.
“I
mean you have to find something that’ll key a connection with them.” He
explained.
“It
could be anything,” Uncle Tevin continued, “you just have to try certain
things. It can be as simple as touching something of theirs, meditating,
reminiscing, and talking to their pictures…..”
“Or
doing something you’re not supposed to do. Something you know they would get
really pissed about.” Dad added. “You just have to try things. Trust me, it’ll
work.” We nodded.
“Thanks
Dad and Uncle Kevin.” Will said.
“Yea,
for real.” I said.
“Look,
we know y’all are distracted, so take a paid leave of absence. When y’all find
them, come back.” Uncle Tevin suggested. We nodded. We stood up and gave our
father and uncle a hug. As I hugged Dad, what he said really started to dawn on
me..
“Dad,
how do you know how we feel and what we’re going through?” I wondered. “I’m not
trying to be an asshole or anything, but that didn’t feel like something you
were saying to comfort us. It sounded like something you really meant.” The
look in his face explained it all. “What happened?”
He
looked at Uncle Tevin and motioned for us to sit down as he sighed. Uncle Tevin
went to the bar and poured four drinks.
“Before
we met your mother and aunt,” Dad began, “we were dating these cousins from Iceland.
They were mixed with all types of different races, and just a complete
package.”
“We
dated for about a year,” Uncle Tevin continued, “until a plane crash took them
away from us. The plane crashed in a flight from Iceland to here and went down
in the Atlantic Ocean. Some say it was hijacked and the black box was never
located.”
“The
thing was, their bodies weren’t found either. We thought that maybe they were
alive.”
“We
kept seeing them in dreams and in hallucinations. We strongly believed they
were alive.”
“It
got to a point that we had to look for them. We spent a month sailing all over
the Atlantic using all types of technology but couldn’t find them.”
“That’s
how we met your mothers… They were on vacation in Spain when we took a break.
Man, did we hit it off with them.”
“So
when your mother and I started to get intimate,” Dad began, with a slight grin,
“that’s when I had a vision on the location of our lost girlfriends.”
“They
were actually being held captive off the coast of Cuba. Quite an epic rescue.”
Uncle Tevin had a website pulled up on his tablet and showed us the article
about the incident. “It was during this incident that I got this wound in my
hand and Kevin got the wound in his neck.”
“The
beauty of tattoos really.” Dad added.
“So
what happened after y’all rescued them?” I asked. They looked at each other and
sighed. I could see the pain. It was buried deep, but still there.
“We
didn’t complete the rescue.” Uncle Tevin began. “While we were boarding the
chopper that was going to take us out of Cuba, we were attacked. The helicopter
was shot down and we crashed on the beach.” It wasn’t obvious, but I can tell
he was fighting back tears. “She died right in my arms.”
“My
girl actually survived. She had a broken leg but was still able to get around.
The rebels converged on us and Tevin and I fought em off as best as we could.
We called another chopper to pick us up and one second before it touched down
for us to board, she was shot in the head.” A moment of silence deafened the
room for a minute. “So, yes, we know how you feel but we also feel this will be
a better outcome.”
“I’m
sorry that I brought it up…” I stated.
“Nah,
don’t sweat it kid… Just know that you were close to coming out of a different
vagina…” He joked.
“Of
all the ways to phrase it, why did you choose that?” I wondered, as we all
laughed.
“Keeping
it fresh…” Dad looked at his watch. “Already, Tevin and I have a meeting to get
to in Chicago. We’ll talk later when we get back.” We nodded and stood up. We
hugged our respective father and uncle.
We
left the office and went back to the car.
SEPTEMBER 16TH:
THE NIGHT BEFORE ANDREW’S FUNERAL:
“Are
you okay?” She asked me.
“As
well as I can be.” I replied.
“Me
and Candace are goin to ride together. We’re goin to leave the kids with your
parents and Will’s parents. I kno you and Will are goin to go out.” I stopped
doing push ups and stood up.
“Come
with me.” I took her hand and led her down to the garage. “Close your eyes.”
She closed her eyes and grabbed tighter on my hand. I could feel her
excitement. I stopped in front of a car and stood behind her. “Open.” She
opened her eyes and her mouth dropped.
“You
didn’t!” She said in excitement. The car was the new Lexus SP321. Capable of
100% auto drive, park, and temperature control. The most advanced car ever
manufactured. She wanted it ever since she heard about it.
“It
was released today, so I got it.” She turned around and gave me a big hug and
kiss.
“I
love you so much.” She said in excitement.
“I
know this.” I said. I watched her as she checked out her new whip.
“It’s
absolutely beautiful.”
“Baby?”
I called her. She turned around. I held up the keys. “You may want these if you
want to see more.” She smiled and took the keys from me. She used the remote to
open the driver and passenger door.
“Get
in with me.” She requested. We got in the car. It had an auto close function
for those that don’t feel like being a gentleman (Brent Campbell Jr.). She
looked at everything. It was beyond luxurious. “We have to take this for a joy
ride.”
“I
wouldn’t think otherwise.” She started the car and started driving.
“I can’t believe you got this for me.” She
stated.
“I
refuse to let negativity affect my relationship with you and the kids. As
distracted as I’ve been, I don’t want it to keep me from being me with you.” I
noticed where we were. “Make a left here and then a right at the light.”
“You
have somewhere in mind you want to go?”
“Yep.
It’s your next surprise.” I looked at her and noticed her smile, the beautiful
smile that attracted me to her in the first place. After making the right at
the light, she noticed the openness and one house on the one mile strip. “I
think you know where to go from here.” I said. She looked at me in awe.
“That’s
not what I think it is, is it?” She asked, rhetorically. She turned into the
courtyard. We saw Candace’s car sitting in the courtyard. Will and Candace got
out as they saw us park behind them. Sydney
turned off the car and we got out.
“Well,
looks like we’re goin to be joined on this tour.” I said, acting like I didn’t
plan it.
“This
seems more staged then spontaneous.” Sydney
stated.
“Plead
the 5th.” I replied. We looked at the house. The lights lit up the
entire house, showing it was pretty much finished. “Shall we?” I offered my
hand to Sydney .
She smiled and took my hand into hers. We went up the steps to the front door.
I put my thumb on the print scanner. The door unlocked and in we went. Just
seeing the living room alone lit Candace and Sydney’s face.
“This
is just how I dreamed it.” Candace stated.
“I
say better.” Sydney
told her. “How’d y’all do all of this? We just mentioned it last night.” Sydney asked Will and me.
“Let’s
just say we read your mind.” I replied.
“We’re
talkin 100,000 sq ft of pure luxury.” Will said. “The living room is the
dimensions you both wanted. The kitchen…..well, let’s take a look.” Will took
Candace’s hand and led the way into the kitchen. They both nearly collapsed.
“Better
then I imagined.” Candace said. “The pantry is almost the size of a small
bedroom.”
“The
pantry is actually 600 sq ft. That should be a lot more space then we normally
use.” I stated.
“So
how many floors is this house?” Sydney
asked.
“5
floors, a basement, bomb shelter and roof with a retractable ceiling. I guess 8
in all.” I replied. “Come on, let’s check out each floor.”
“Actually,
we should finish this floor.” Will corrected me. We walked out the kitchen and
came across the hallway that separates the living room from the dining room.
“This end is our side and that end is their side.” Will pointed. Candace and
Will headed down their end and Sydney and I headed down ours. Each end was like
an entire house on each side. Being Candace and Sydney wanted to actually use
the common areas, neither sides had kitchens or living rooms. Each side
consisted of 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a laundry room, and a huge office. When
we finished marveling over our sides, we met back up in the living room.
“Oh
yea, that door to the left of the front door is to the entertainment room and
patio.” I said. We went into the entertainment room which housed 250 leather
reclining seats. “That will soon be the latest movie theater sized life
definition TV screen. On that far wall will be a serving table.” I opened the
door in the back of the room. “Here’s the patio to put our grill.”
“Is
that the playground we requested?” Candace asked.
“To
the T.” Will said. “That’s also the basketball court with retractable roof.”
“This
is absolutely beautiful.” Sydney
said.
“Wait
til you see upstairs.” Will added. We got on the elevator and began going
through each floor. Each floor consisted of 8 suites. The type of suites you’d
see at the most expensive 5-star hotels. When we got to the roof, both of their
mouths dropped.
“This
view is absolutely gorgeous.” Sydney
said. “Nothing but the lake.”
“Here
is our pool, over there is the Jacuzzi, and another grill will be there.” I
pointed out.
“We’ll
have a few pool tables over there, some TVs strung up somehow, and whatever
else we can think of.” Will added.
“Kenny,
I can’t believe everything you’ve done.” Sydney
said. She turned and hugged me. “Thank you.”
“I
was willing to do anything to make you as happy as you are now.” She smiled and
kissed me. “I love you, Sydney.”
“I
love you too, Kenny. With all my heart.” She replied. I kissed her passionately
and held her in my arms.
CHAPTER IV
BRINK OF INSANITY
I
looked around. A room. So dark. So empty. Cold. I began to walk around. The
sound of my boots against the wood floor echoed across the house. I listened
for anything. Faintly, I can hear my name in the distance. I exited the room
and headed down a hallway. At the end of the hallway, I can see a table with
something on it. I approached the table and picked up the note sitting on it.
You must free yourself or you will lose yourself.
Choose your path wisely
I
looked to the left and then to the right. Both paths looked dark. I couldn’t
see a damn thing. I could hear children’s voices coming from the left. Sounded
like my kids. Happy. Full of life. Then I started to hear my name being called
from the right. A woman. Beautiful voice. Turning me on with each syllable. Sydney .
I
looked back at the note and turned it over. Something else was written there.
Small handwriting, yet legible.
I am if you allow me to be. I’m not if you choose it
so. Deprive yourself of life and you shall deprive those that count on you.
Chase something unsure and bleak….you may lose your sanity. Be sure. Be free.
Be Kenny. Go left to be free. Go right to test your sanity.
I
looked to the left. The darkness went away and I can see myself with my kids.
The five of us. Having fun. Enjoying life. Happy.
I
looked to the right. That darkness dissipated as well. I could see myself with
my fiancée. The six of us. Beautiful. Together. Happy. But as I watched, the
image blurred. I knew that going that way was a hit or miss. The blurriness
showing it’s possible, but improbable.
Right
when I was going to turn away, the right hall appeared in another image. Me. Just me. No kids. No
Sydney . As it
zoomed out, I was sitting in a padded room. Isolated. Hugging myself. Insane.
I
looked back to the left. My kids were looking right back at me. Smiles on their
faces.
“Don’t
leave us, Daddy.” Tierra said to me.
“With
my mommy gone, you’re all I have.” Kendal added.
The
twins were still too young to talk, but I knew what they would say as well. My
kids needed me. Focused. Fatherly. Sane.
“Yet
you know in your heart,” I immediately turned to the right as I heard her
voice, “I’m alive.” She said to me. “Insanity is in the head. It’s all in the
head. Your heart guides you to me. Your heart gives you the belief. You can’t
give up on me for the fear of insanity. For that fear is not a factor.”
I
looked left…right…left…back to the right…I couldn’t make up my mind. This
decision itself was going to drive me to insanity. I closed my eyes, turned in
place a few times and looked to the ceiling. When I opened my eyes, I noticed something
written on the ceiling. It was written in two different ways. Depending on
which way I was facing, I guess.
You read from left to right. In hopes it’ll tell you
where to go. If this is in your sight. Well then, follow the arrow.
I
looked at the direction the arrow was pointing………
I
woke up to my cell phone ringing. I looked at it and answered it.
“Yea.”
I replied, groggy and cranky.
“Kenny?”
The voice said softly. It was a woman’s voice, but it was so soft, I could
barely hear it. I looked at my phone again. It was a private number.
“Who
is this?”
“Have
you forgotten my voice already?”
That
was loud and clear….too loud and too clear to be on the phone. I looked to my
left and saw Sydney
lying next to me. I was speechless. I couldn’t move. All I could do was stare
into her eyes.
“You’re
as gorgeous as ever.” I finally mustered up the strength to say.
“I
will always be your arm candy.” She replied. Her eyes were glowing. I was
mesmerized. “You’re having that dream quite often.”
“Too
often.”
“I’d
ask which way did you choose, but all things considered, I think it’s obvious.”
“I
can’t go insane in my own dreams.”
“Are
you dreaming right now?” She asked softly. I turned towards her.
“Very
much so.” I admitted as I exhaled. “As much as I wish you were really here….in
our bed…looking into my eyes….” I sighed, “I know you’re not.”
“I’m
always here with you, my love.”
“You
say that like you’re dead.”
“Maybe
I am.” She said grimly.
“I
don’t believe that.” I contended.
“Why?
Why is it so hard to believe?” She asked.
“It
just doesn’t feel like it. I would know if you really were.”
“How?
How would you know? You saw that car explode.”
At
that moment, the images of the car exploding played in my head. Only for an
instant as right after, I was looking at Sydney again.
“Yea,
so what?” I stated, shrugging it off.
“Think
about it. You didn’t see me get out. You have the best peripherals I’ve ever
known anyone to have. Can you really lay there and say Candace and I got out
the car without you being able to see a single glimpse of us?”
I
lied there thinking it over. Everything she was saying was true. I didn’t know
what to say. Doesn’t mean I didn’t say anything.
“Even
I don’t see everything. I just buried my son. Naturally I wouldn’t be as
focused that day.”
“Is
that your excuse?”
“That’s
my reason. That’s my fact. That’s why I refuse to give up on you.”
She
looked into my eyes. Didn’t say a word at first. Just stared into my eyes. She
then smiled.
“And
that’s why I love you.” She took my hand into hers. “Follow your heart. Hang on
to our love. Don’t ever let it go.”
“I’ll
never let it go but why are you talking like that?”
“I
believe you know why.”
“No!
Please!” Tears streamed down my face. “I’m not ready!”
“Can
you honestly say that you’ll ever be ready?”
“You’re
right. I’ll never be ready to ever see you leave!” I cried.
“I’m
sorry, my love, but it’s time.”
“Fuck
that. I can’t let you go. I don’t want to leave you.”
“But
I’m not really here.”
“But
it’s the realist you’ve been for me!” I cried.
“I’m
sorry, Kenny. It’s time for you to wake up.” She said as she placed her hand on
my cheek. She leaned forward and kissed my lips. “I love you. Forever and
always.
“I
love you. Always and forever.” I said softly. She kissed me again.
My
eyes opened to my bright room. My cheek felt like a hand was resting on it. My
lips felt like another person’s lips were pressed against them. I could only
imagine how I would have felt if we…..yea……maybe next time.
I
looked at my cell phone and noticed the time. At that second, a call came in
from Will.
“What
up?” I said, unenthusiastic.
“Damn,
am I interrupting?” He asked, noticing my tone.
“Nah,
just another bad night.”
“Same
dream?” He asked.
“Same
dream.” I replied.
“Damn.
Well I was hittin you up to see if you were gonna go to work?”
“Haven’t
decided yet. You?” I asked.
“Haven’t
decided. Wanna chill up on the roof?” I paused for a sec.
“Be
up there in 15.” I replied.
“It’s
on.”
I
hung up and tossed my phone on the pillow. I wiped my face with my hands
upwards towards my hair and then thru my hair. I stood up and started walking
to the bathroom. I then passed by a pair of Sydney ’s thongs that I must have knocked off
the hamper. I picked them up…..
“So what you think?” Sydney asked me. I looked at her up and down.
“You are, by far, the most beautiful goddess I’ve ever
had the pleasure to lay eyes on.” I replied.
“Really? You don’t think I need to lose more weight?”
She asked.
“Hell no. You look absolutely amazing.”
“Thank you. Not just for the compliment, but for
everything.”
“Well, you wanted me to push you, so I pushed you.”
She walked to me and pushed me so I was laying flat on my back. “I thought we
were leaving.”
“We are.” She replied, getting on top of me. “Right
after you take me to heaven.” She started kissing me……
Leaning
against the door frame, I stared at the floor. A tear from each eye splashed on
the floor. I shook it off and walked to the sink. I stared at my reflection. I
looked like hell. I started brushing my teeth and getting cleaned up to meet up
wit Will.
When
I got on the roof, Will was already sitting in his recliner with a drink
poured. I poured a drink for myself and sat in my recliner. Drinking at 8am…we
never done it before unless it was during a party from the previous night.
“You
know,” I began, “I’ve been hit with brass knuckles and glass bottles, stabbed,
and shot yet all of that combined doesn’t come close to the pain I’m feeling
now.”
“No
argument here.” Will replied. “It’s like my heart is about to burst but until
that time it’s getting tortured to death.”
“I
have no idea what to do. It’s been six weeks and I don’t feel any clearer.”
“Yea.”
“I
mean that dream is becoming a routine. It’s been two weeks of it all going the
same way.”
“Without
assumptions, do you know which way you go?” He asked.
“No
idea. When I turn in place, I don’t know if I’m doing complete turns or half
turns. It’s all insane. Right when I look at the arrow, I wake up before seeing
if it’s to the left or right.”
“The
arrow is obviously pointing right though as far as how you’re standing.”
“Yea…I
just don’t know if it’s the right right or if it’s the left right.”
“Yea,
I see what you saying.” A comfortable silence deafened the area.
“You
remember the last time we were up here?” I asked.
“Sitting
as we are right before they came thru that door.” Will replied. “Two days
before your son’s funeral.”
“Did
you do anything special with Candace the day of?”
“Nothing
out of the ordinary.” He started to grin a little. “She woke me up to breakfast
in bed. As I ate, she ironed my clothes and laid em out.” He got silent for a
second as he looked at his fiancĂ©e’s engagement ring. Tears streamed down his
face as he sniffed and continued. “She’s done so much for me. She did things no
other woman has ever done. From clipping my toe nails to massaging my
shoulders. There’s not a single thing she wouldn’t do for me.” He sniffed as
more tears streamed down. “And all I had to do was keep her safe. I promised
her that. I swore on my life that I would never let anything happen to her and
I failed her.”
“You
can’t blame yourself for this.” I told him as I fought the urge to cry with
him. “We’re not at fault for this.”
“As
right as you are, I can’t refrain from taking blame. She’s not here, Kenny!
Candace is not here!”
“I
realize that.” I said.
“I’m
losing faith. Six fucking weeks and still nothing. If we’re so great, why
haven’t we found them? Why can’t we find them?” He looked at me, expecting me
to answer. I looked down at the ground.
“You’re
right.” I said softly. “We should have found them by now.” I looked up at him.
“But I’m not losing faith. I don’t care if six years passed, I would still have
hope.” He saw the passion in my eyes and nodded.
“You
make it sound so easy.” He said softly.
“The
last thing this is easy.” I killed the rest of my drink and went to the bar.
“You know, Sydney
always had this fragrance that she wore all the time. I swear, it’s the most
seductive smell ever to travel through my nose.” I turned around and started
walking back to my seat. “I mean her scent is on everything. I must have slept
with something of hers every single night since she’s been gone.” I sat down.
“So far, all it has done is given me weird dreams and nightmares.”
“You
know that picture of the four of us that we took on Candace’s birthday last
year?” Will asked me.
“Yea.”
“I
picked it up the other day and just zoned out to that day. Right after, I got a
vision of her in a dark room. I couldn’t tell if she was unconscious or in a
coma, but she was alive. No idea where she could be or if that was even a
helpful vision.”
“At
least you’re getting something.”
“Yea,
but she’s not talking to me like Sydney
is to you. It’s almost proof that she’s alive.”
“Or
she could be talking to me from the grave.” I stated.
“I
doubt that. She would know if she was dead.” I thought about it.
“Yea,
I guess you’re right.” I took a sip of my drink and looked at the skyscrapers.
“With
the season starting in three months, are we even going to be ready?” Will
asked.
“Not
if we don’t find them. For now, I plan on skipping training camp and the
preseason.” I replied.
“Doesn’t
sound like a bad idea at this point.”
We
both took a sip of our drinks to another comfortable silence.
“We
need to occupy ourselves more.” I suggested. “I mean I know we’re not
necessarily in the best condition, but we should take care of our kids.”
“Maybe
that’ll make the days a little easier.” Will agreed. “My fear is having to tell
them why their mother isn’t around.”
“Mine
too, but we have to tell them something. We need to do something to get our
mind off Sydney and Candace.” Will sipped his drink. “I know it’s gonna be
hard, but we almost don’t have a choice. We’re not accepting anything, just
occupying our mind to ease the pain.”
Will
looked at me to judge my seriousness. He knew I was serious, but wasn’t sure if
I was truly willing to take my mind off Sydney .
“Are
you sure you can handle the kids? I don’t know if I can.” He asked.
“I’m
not sure at all.” I sipped my drink and started smiling. “I remember the first
time I was alone to take care of the kids. It went smoothly at first, but the
evening was most difficult. Sydney
caught me just running around the house trying to maintain control.”
At
that moment, that memory flashed before my eyes.
“I have no idea how you do this day in and day out.” I
said as I put a diaper on Sinclair.
“I’m a natural mother, remember?” She said as she lied
down on the bed. “Do you need me to take over?”
“I promised you a lil R&R…I’m not about to bitch
up now.” I replied. “Tierra?” I called. I finished Sinclair’s diaper and
started dressing her for bed.
“Yes?” She yelled back.
“Did you brush your teeth?” I yelled to her.
“Yes, sir!” She yelled back.
“Thank you! Kendal?” I called.
“Sir?” He yelled.
“Are you done cleaning your room?” I yelled to him.
“Almost!” He yelled back.
“Find a stopping point so you can get ready for bed!”
“Yes, sir!”
“No, no, no!” I said to Kenny Jr., “we don’t suck our
thumbs.”
“I’m glad you’re still stopping them.” Sydney commented. “I’ve
been doing the same and hoping you weren’t undermining me.”
“Never that.” I finished dressing Sinclair and started
on Jr.
“So how has the day gone?” She asked.
“Everything was good til dinner time. You forgot to
mention the fact that Sinclair and Jr. like to throw food at each other.” She
started laughing.
“I thought you’d appreciate the comedic value more if
you experienced it for yourself.”
“Oh yea, very funny until clean up time.”
“They usually clean up smoothly if you pair them up
right.” Sydney
claimed.
“What do you mean?”
“If you bathe Sinclair with Tierra and Jr. with Kendal,
the older siblings are very helpful.”
“Thanks for the advice…you’re only 3 hrs too late.”
She laughed again. “Elders by themselves and twins together….bad idea I see.
Kendal and Tierra were obviously fine. The twins were too busy splashing
water.” She continued to laugh after seeing the pile of wet clothes.
I finished dressing Jr. and picked up both of them.
“I’m sorry baby. I should have mentioned that.” Sydney stated.
“You did that on purpose.” I claimed.
She followed me to the twins’ room. She stood at the
door as I laid them down and turned on music. I kissed them on the forehead.
“Night y’all.” I told em.
“Night, dada!” They both said… At least that’s what it
sounded like.
I turned off the main light and the night light came
on. I walked out the room and went to Kendal’s. Sydney watched me as I did my fatherly
things.
“Looks a lot better than before.” I said to Kendal. He
was putting the rest of his clothes in the drawers.
“How often do I need to clean up?” He asked.
“Honestly, I don’t care how often you clean up. Just
keep it neat. Always keep a clean home. Impresses the girls.” I told him.
“I don’t need to impress any girls.” He said.
“Yea, you don’t yet. Keep in mind; I’m going to teach
you things that you need to know in life. Not just for the present.” He nodded.
“I think I’m finished.” He stated.
“Looks fine to me.” I told him. “Hop into bed.” I
watched him as he got in bed. “TV or music?” I asked him.
“Music.” He replied.
I gave him the remote and kissed his forehead.
“Night, lil man.” I told him.
“Night.”
I turned his light off and closed his door as I walked
out. I then went to Tierra’s room. She was already in bed with her music on,
waiting on me to tell her goodnight.
“Still my little independent.” I said as I approached
her.
“Always, Daddy!” She said. She smiled to show me her
teeth.
“Good job.” I kissed her forehead. “Night Princess!”
“Night, Daddy.” I closed her door as I left.
On the way to our room, Sydney wrapped her arms around my waist from
behind me.
“That was good. I don’t know what you’re complaining
about.” She said.
“Ha. I’m not complaining at all, love.” I told her.
We walked into our room. I lied down on the bed and
took a deep breath.
“Tired?” She asked me.
“A little. Why?” I replied.
“Cuz I’m so horny right now and I need to know if
you’re available or if I gotta call someone.”
“Call someone? I’ll give you someone to call!”
I sat up, grabbed her, and yanked her onto the bed.
She playfully yelled and laughed as she wasn’t expecting me to do that. On top
of her, I held her arms down and just gazed at her.
“Something on your mind?” She asked. I grinned in
admiration.
“Nothing at all.”
“KENNY?!?!”
Will called me, snapping me back to reality.
“Yea,
I’m here.” I said.
“Now
you are.” He stated. “You really disappeared there.”
“You
have no idea.” I looked at my drink, thinking about Sydney again.
When
I got back to my room, I went into the kitchen to find something to eat. I
looked on the refrigerator at a note.
Just your daily reminder that I love you!
Sid
Not
again!!!!!!!
“I got your lunch here.” Sydney said to me as I finished getting ready
for work.
“Yea, buddy….what’s on today’s menu?” I said as I came
into the kitchen.
“Well I wasn’t sure what you’d have a taste for so I
made a variety for you.” She opened my lunch bag to load it up. “We have a nice
chicken salad, chicken sandwich, couple apples, bag of Snyder’s, leftover
lasagna, and two cans of Pepsi.”
“Man all of that is getting smashed.” I told her,
almost hungry again. “Wait, timeout…… we didn’t have any chicken lunch meat.”
“I know. I had to use the frozen chicken breast. You
were sleep when I got home last night.”
“Yea, with reason. It was at 1am. You seriously cooked
my lunch when you got home from work?”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“Figured you were tired.”
“So?”
“Well….” I had nothing to say….just in awe.
“Ohhhh…..I see what you’re saying.” She said sarcastically.
“You didn’t think I loved you that much.” I chuckled a little bit.
“Kinda.”
“Got you covered.” She grabbed a sticky note and
started writing on it. She then stuck it on the refrigerator. “There ya go baby.”
I read the note and laughed.
“I don’t need a reminder.” I joked.
“Obviously you do.” She joked. I embraced her and
kissed her.
“You’re funny. I love you baby girl.”
“And I love you, baby boy.”
“I’ll
never need a reminder to know you love me.” I said softly.
“What
about me?” A woman’s voice said to me.
I
immediately turned towards it. I recognized the voice and was staring into the
eyes of the owner.
MONTHS AFTER TIERRA’S BIRTH
Those
who’ve followed my life know that Monique was my first wife. Don’t get me
wrong, I loved her, but she wasn’t my true love. In fact, I have no idea how I
ended up with her and not my true love. It happened and I’ve always regretted
it. Will feels the same way about Beyonce. So what does this mean? Are our
lives less fulfilling? Not at all. It’s just now we resort to cheating more
often then we want. Alisa and Alessa were our true loves. They were Monique and
Beyonce but a lot more. They were funny, gorgeous, intelligent, and had family
that didn’t want to kill us.
Alisa
was everything I wanted in a woman before I knew I wanted to be with just ONE
woman. I’ve had the best sex of my life with her and no one can top her. Sydney is a close second.
I spent so much money on this woman, it’s insane. In that same sense, she spent
crazy money on me too. It wasn’t one sided at all. For example, I bought her a
brand new car for her birthday. She bought me a brand new motorcycle for mine.
Monique never did that. Sydney
does that, but she doesn’t count. This was before her. Alisa was in Houston for most of our
adulthood. She had sex with no one while there. When I visit, she was mine the
entire time. We did so much together.
When
I got married, she was upset for a little while but forgave me. She felt it was
her fault but it really wasn’t. In the end, we were right for each other. Right
in so many ways. During the NBA season was when we really saw each other.
Anytime we were in the state of Texas playing
a Texas team (Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio ) we were
together. So what happened? Why didn’t we just get together? In the absolute
worst incident of my life, we weren’t able to move much further.
Will
and I were in Houston
for Game 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals. Will and I shared a hotel room and
immediately called the twins. They arrived moments later, not wasting any time.
We all went down to the hotel swimming pool and started swimming.
“How
long will you be in town for after you win?” Alisa asked me.
“How
long you want me for?” I asked her.
“Give
me a week.” She requested.
“Our
parade is usually two days later. How about I come back afterwards?”
“Nah,
I want to go to the parade. A championship is finally coming to Cleveland. I
can’t miss that.”
“Didn’t
you win the MVP this year, Will?” Alessa asked.
“Nah.
Kenny got it this year, hands down.” He stated.
“I’mma
dedicate game 3 and 4 to you.” I said to Alisa. I kissed her lips. She wrapped
her arms around me and wouldn’t stop kissing me.
“Can’t
y’all save that for later?” Will asked. We stopped and looked at Will.
“Sorry
bout that, pops.” I said to him. Alisa and I looked at each other. “So you’re
going to the parade, huh?” I asked her.
“Yes,
I am. I will fly there right after you. I’ll stay at the same hotel as usual.
I’ll stand out at the parade so you can see me.” She said.
“I’ll
signal to you.”
“Like
you used to when I was cheerleading?”
“Exactly
like I did when you were cheerleading.”
“Does
anyone know about it?”
“Just
you and those two over there.” We looked at Will and Alessa as they were
dunking each other in the water.
“That
looks fun.” She said.
“Let’s
go join them.”
Hand
in hand, we dunked Will and Alessa under water.
We continued to play around, talk and swim for an hour longer before
getting out the pool. We went up to our room and showered. The room was a two
bedroom deluxe suite with two bathrooms just so you know. Alisa and I showered
together, making love in the shower of course.
When
we finished, we got dressed, got on the bed and started watching TV. I lied
down across her legs as she ran her fingers through my hair. Her touch gave me
goose bumps. The only woman that can do that. It calmed me. She smelled so good
too. I ran my fingers across her smooth legs. This was my sanctuary.
“Do
you want me to braid this for your game?” She asked.
“No.
I’m loving what you’re doing right now.”
“Did
I tell you about this guy that’s been trying to get with me?”
“No,
you didn’t.”
“This
guy I work with has been trying to get with me for the past year and a half. I
mean he’s bought me countless things and all I’ve done was smile at him, engage
in small talk, and turn him down. Yet, he still tries to spoil me.”
“What
did he buy you?” I asked her.
“Ummm….roses
every day, a gold necklace, a new cell phone, new shoes, and a few dresses.”
“A
new cell phone?” I repeated.
“That
was two days after you already got me one.” I chuckled some. “The only thing I
actually kept was the two tickets to Game 4.”
“He
got you tickets?”
“Yea.
I couldn’t believe it. He thought he was going with me, but I told him I was
taking my sister.”
“So
what’s this guy like?”
“He’s
very sweet, funny, all around good guy. He’s attractive and just two years
older than me.”
“What’s
stopping you baby?” I wondered.
“I
know I couldn’t give myself to him. I can’t give myself to anyone but you. God
knows I’ve tried.”
“Does
he know about me?”
“He
sees the picture of us on my desk all the time. I don’t tell him much about our
history, but he knows I am yours.”
“Alisa…”
I began as I turned to her. She put her finger to my lips.
“I
know what you’re going to say, but I don’t care. You can tell me a million
times and I still won’t care. I know deep in my heart that one day we will be
together. I’ve waited this long and I’ll continue to wait for as long as it
takes. I told you, you can do whatever you want. I don’t care how many other
girls you have. When you’re done with them, you will always have me.” She
kissed me gently on the lips. “When you win tomorrow, I will be waiting here to
give you a full body massage and to ready your ice bath.” She kissed me again.
“May
I speak now?” I said, smiling.
“What’s
on your mind?”
“I’m
going to divorce my wife when I get back to Cleveland .”
“Why
are you going to do that? I thought you were happy with her?”
“I
am. But I’m happier with you.” She looked at me, putting together what I’m
saying. Her eyes slowly filled.
“Don’t
play wit me, Mr. Johnson. Don’t say it unless you really mean it.” She stated,
knowing what I was going to say.
“Well,
baby girl, I do mean it. I’m leaving my wife to be with you. To officially be
with you. I’m tired of playing this game. I’m tired of pretending that I want
you to be happy with others. I’m tired of sneaking around. I just want to be
with you.” I touched her face. “You’re my one true love.” I grinned and cleared
her tear with my thumb. “You’re my soul mate.”
She
didn’t know what to say. She wanted to speak, but couldn’t find the words. I
pulled her to me and kissed her. It got intense real quick, I must say.
After
winning Game 4, Will and I were at the table for our post-game interviews. We
had our hats on, t-shirts on, the NBA championship trophy, and I had my MVP
trophy.
“Well,”
I began answering a question directed to me, “being undefeated doesn’t mean as
much to us as bringing the city of Cleveland
more championships. We look at it as nothing more than icing on the cake. Just
like me winning the MVP for both the season and the finals. Winning the
championship was our goal from day 1.”
“We’ve never seen such focus out of both of you. The
past two games it seemed you two were completely different. More intense like
there was something to prove.”
“There
was a lot to prove.” Will began. “We had to prove to ourselves and the world
that being top picks in the draft isn’t a fluke. We had to prove that we are
looking at being a dynasty. We played with our hearts. We dedicated this performance
to our daughters and our soul mates.” I did my signal to her. Alisa was
watching on TV, smiling and crying.
“Will
put it best.” I added, “We played with our hearts.”
“I realize the season just ended, but do you think
you’ll be able to repeat?”
“That’s
what we’re going for. We’ll see if it’ll happen.” Will replied.
A
couple days later, we had our parade in Cleveland .
I saw Alisa clear as day and, again, did the signal for her. She mouthed the
words “I love you”. I then saw Monique and Tierra up in a building. I waved and
blew a kiss at mostly Tierra. The streets were filled with people cheering for
us. When we got to the stage, Will and I were barely able to speak because of
the cheers. It just wouldn’t subside.
After
the parade, I went home and packed an overnight bag. Monique came into the
room.
“Where
are you going?” She asked.
“Going
to a party. You know how it is, big celebration.” I told her, lying through my
teeth. “I’ll see you later.”
“How
later we talking?” She wondered.
“Ah,
prolly around sometime tomorrow afternoon.” That was true.
“Can
you bring back a few things?”
“Yea,
sure.” I told her. She handed me a shopping list.
“Love
you.” She kissed my cheek.
“Love
you too.” I made it sound as heartfelt as possible, but to me, it had no
substance.
I
kissed her cheek and went into Tierra’s room. I kissed her forehead and left
the house. Will and I rode together to the hotel. When I got to Alisa’s room,
she opened the door wearing the sexiest lingerie I’ve ever seen. My mouth
watered quickly. She took my hand and pulled me into the room. I stuck the Do
Not Disturb sign on the door and closed it.
After
having the absolute best sex I’ve ever had (which is REALLY saying something),
we lied in bed looking up at the ceiling. Both of us were shocked by what just
took place. I was running my fingers through her hair and she was running her
fingers across my chest. Both of us were trying to catch our breath.
“Kenny?”
She said, softly.
“Alisa.”
I replied. She smiled and kissed my hand.
“What’s
your plan?”
“As
far as what?”
“Leaving
your wife for me?”
“Well,
it’ll take about a month. I have to file some documents, wait on responses, a
little bit of this, little bit of that. While I’m taking care of everything, I
want you to get ready to move here.”
“Are
we living together?”
“You,
me, Will and Alessa. We’ll buy another house or something. Haven’t decided yet.
Depends on how ugly the divorce is.”
“You
know what I was thinking about?” She asked.
“What?”
“When
we first met. I never thought it’d be to this point.”
“Me
neither.”
“I
remember you didn’t even like me.”
“I’ve
always liked you.” I chuckled. “I used to think you were annoying because you
play too much.”
“I
used to think you were stuck up.” She admitted. “Then I realized you were
putting on the tough guy in front of your boys.”
“I
have no reason to do that.”
“But
you did.”
“I
was young.”
“I
came to the realization that you were yourself when it was just you or if you
were with Will.”
“My
soul brother.” I said. “Sad but true.”
“When
did you realize you loved me?” She asked.
“When
I saw you leave for Houston
after last year’s Super Bowl.” I admitted. “I almost chased down that plane. It
literally felt like my heart left with you.”
“The
first time I realized I loved you was when I left for Houston the very first time. It’s why I can’t
be with anyone else.”
“How
could you love me like that when I wasn’t even doing you right?”
“Cuz
I knew that if we were officially together, you wouldn’t do those things.
You’re the Kenny Johnson. You’re
wanted by so many women. I understood that and was able to block it out. But
when you got married, I admit I wanted to be mad at you forever. I wanted to
give myself to others, but you never changed. You treated me the same way.”
“Did
I?” I couldn’t recall.
“On the
anniversary of the first day we met, you came into town and we took a cruise to
the Bahamas.”
“Oh
yea.”
“That
was a week after your honeymoon.”
“Business
trip.” I laughed, remembering the excuse I gave.
“You
bought me my house on our first date anniversary.” She reminded me.
“Yea,
I remember that.”
“Does
your wife still not believe you bought that motorcycle and boat?” She wondered.
“I
made her believe it. She didn’t at first.” I told her.
“Back
to what I was saying, it kinda stuck in my head that you were always going to treat
me good. No matter what. You deserve a pure woman. So I kept myself pure.”
“Whoa,
you sayin I’m still the only one you been with?” I looked at her.
“Yes.
That is what I’m saying.” She replied, looking back at me.
“You’re
not even curious?”
“I’ve
had enough feedback to know. I’ve had conversations with those you’ve
experienced. They’ll talk about their sex life and the second your name is
mentioned, each one of them in unison would say you were the best. So if I’ve
had the 5 star experiences all my life, why do anything less?”
“I’m
wondering the same thing.”
“About
what I just said?”
“About
you in general. You’re the best I’ve ever been with, yet it took me this long
to stay with you.”
“You’re
curious if there’s better.” She sat up a little bit and looked me in the eyes.
“I’m not curious about anyone.” She kissed my lips….and then my neck.
“What
are you doing?” I asked her, smiling as she continued to kiss my body.
“Giving
myself to you again.” She replied.
“Well
if you’re going to do that, I’mma need a Gatorade and a power bar or
something.” I joked.
Again,
we lied there looking at the ceiling, completely out of breath. She held my
hand across her heart. I was enjoying the feel of her heart (and her breast if
you want to be a smart ass). I turned and looked at the clock. It was 3am.
“Are
you sleepy?” I asked her.
“I
don’t know.” She replied.
“Me
neither.” I agreed.
“Does
your mother like me?” She said out of the blue.
“Adores
you. I still get shit from her for not choosing you.”
“What
about your dad?”
“I
think so. He doesn’t really talk about any of my girls. The only one he’s ever
mentioned was Sydney ,
but that was when he was more involved in our lives.”
“Dave,
the guy that has a crush on me, knows a guy that dated a woman named Sydney
Connors. Do you think she might be yours?”
“Possible.
That’d be something though.” I said. We both slowly started to fall asleep.
“Do
you think we’re really soul mates?” She said slowly as she started falling
asleep.
“Absolutely.
Don’t you?” I said, also slowly as my eyes were closing.
“Uh
huh.” She agreed. Seconds later, we were both sleep.
I
woke up the following morning to lips pressing against mine. I didn’t open my
eyes immediately, merely kissed back. Soft, supple, and absolutely gorgeous. I
could feel her hands touching me. I opened my eyes and stared into beautiful
ones. It was like waking up in heaven and seeing a Goddess. I was amazed in how
I was feeling. It reminded me of when Monique and I were first dating. The only
difference is this is real. I still cheated on Monique when we were dating.
“Did
you sleep well?” She said softly.
“Haven’t
slept like that in months.” I replied. “How bout you?”
“For
once I didn’t dream about you.” She said. “What are we doing today? It’s my
last day here.”
“Whatever
you want sugar bear.”
“I’ll
go ask Alessa what she wants to do.”
She
kisses me once more and gets up. She throws on my T-Shirt and goes to their
room. I look at the clock on the nightstand and noticed it’s just after 9am.
She’s always been the early one. I could really use a couple more hours from
all that sex we had, but I was actually feeling pretty good.
I
looked at my phone and saw a text message from Monique. She was telling me
she’s going to her parents’ for the day and will be back tonight. I texted back
saying that Will and I were going to go to Cincinnati for the day to close a business
deal. Will and I already talked about the idea last night.
Speaking
of Will, as I finished texting Monique, he came out his room and plopped on the
bed next to me.
“What
up, son?” He said to me.
“Plan
is in motion.” I told him as I sat my phone back on the nightstand.
“They’re
back there bullshittin so I figured I’d come up here and keep you company.”
“Thoughtful.”
I sat up.
“You
do got draws on, right?”
“Of
course. I can’t stand sleeping naked.” I got out the bed and stretched.
“Dude,
we’re in Cincinnati ,
right?”
“Yes
we are.” We gave each other a high five.
“Aye,
let’s go to D.C.” He suggested.
“D.C…why
D.C?” I asked, half-way laughing. “Pulled that out your ass a lil bit, ya think?”
“Come
on, we’ve been talking bout goin to tour D.C for years but never got around to
it. Let’s go now.”
“As
long as we can take the private jet.”
“Hell’s
yea.”
“Go
to that club down in Alexandria .”
“Get
drunk off shots of New American and Dirty Pussy.” Great drinks by the way.
“It’s
going to be legendary.” We high fived again.
“Now
we gotta get them onboard.” Will said.
He
looked towards the back room. We could hear them laughing, talking about god
knows what. They sounded alike to the T. Their laughs made us laugh a little
bit and shake our heads.
“We’re
such idiots.” I stated.
“You
don’t have to tell me. I’m more then aware.” Will agreed.
As
their voices got louder, we realized they were coming our way. We waited for
them to appear and look at us. We stared at them until that moment. When they
looked at us, they thought they did something wrong.
“What’s
up?” Alessa asked. “Were we too loud or something?”
“Not
at all. We’re just waiting.” I replied.
“Well,
Alisa and I have a proposition for you.” I sat down on the bed. “We want to go
to DC.”
Will
and I looked at each other and started laughing. They stared at us, not
understanding what we were laughing about. When we finally stopped, we stood up
and shook our heads.
“What’s
so funny, baby?” Alisa asked me.
“The
way things work out.” I said. “We were going to suggest the exact same thing to
you two.”
“You’re
kidding!” They both said with pure amazement.
“Let’s
not ruin the moment by getting overexcited. Let’s just jump in the shower and
go.” Will suggested.
“Yes,
I agree with the man.” I said.
“Are
we goin to take the jet?” Alessa asked.
Will
and I laughed again. This time they knew we were thinking the exact same thing.
Nothing was said. We just went into our respective bathrooms and started taking
a shower.
Alisa
and I stood in the bathroom starting to get undressed. First, we brushed our
teeth and then looked at our reflections.
“Do
you think I’m getting a little chubby?” She asked.
“Not
even close. You’re absolutely gorgeous.” I told her.
“I
weighed myself. I gained 3 pounds in a week.”
“Don’t
believe it.” I turned her towards me. “There’s nothing different about you.
You’re perfect.” I looked down and then into her eyes. “Although you could use
breast implants.” She smacked my arm, causing me to laugh.
“You’re
an ass.” She said smiling her beautiful smile. “You love my titts.”
“Yes
I do.” I said, getting naked.
She
took her bra off, exposing those beautiful fun bags. All I could do was smile.
She smiled back, knowing I was loving the view.
“You
know my mother still believes you’ll marry me.” She said.
“My
mother thinks I should have.” I admitted.
“I
love your mother to death.”
“And
she loves you.” We were naked and got into the shower. We kept talking. “In
fact, she brings you up at least once a week.”
“She
used to think I was Alessa for the first month she knew me.”
“That
was too funny.”
“You
were able to tell us apart from the get go. How did you do it?” She wondered.
“I mean it surprised me in many ways.”
“Well
it’s actually simple. Your smile.”
“My
smile?” She said, unable to resist from smiling.
“Yes,
that beautiful smile. Your smile enhances your beauty more than Alessa. When
she smiles, it’s just a nice smile. Yours makes me melt.”
Those
words made her wet and I’m not talking about from the water. She started
kissing me and proceeded to have sex for a third time in 10 hrs. This has got
to stop at least for 12 hrs. Yet, I can’t resist her and she can’t resist me. I
don’t know what it is. Either way, we can’t keep our hands off each other.
When
we got out the shower and finished dressing, we left the hotel and went down to
the lobby. It was a quarter after 11. Alessa called for a limo to take us to
the private airport. As we waited, Will and I saw an alcohol stand. We
proceeded to get a few bottles of champagne, Crown Royal Rare, and 1800. We
were bout to get drunk as shit. When we got back to the lobby, the limo
arrived. We walked out to it and got in.
“I
can’t believe we’re doing this.” Alisa excitedly said. “I feel so naughty.”
“You’ve
been naughty all week.” I joked.
“When
was the last time we took the jet anywhere?” Will asked. “Was it to Houston three months
ago?”
“I
think so.” I replied, thinking about it.
“We
should do this more often.” Alessa said to Will.
“I
agree, buttercup.” He said, kissing her hand.
Alisa
and I looked at each other and chuckled.
We
got to the airport a few minutes later. The jet was running and waiting. We
greeted the pilot and got onboard. How comfortable it is. It always feels like
it’s the first time I been on this aircraft. We’ve had it for years, but rarely
use it. Maybe we should change that.
I
sat down and started looking out the window. Alisa sat next to me, but laid
across me. She took my arm and wrapped it around her. Legs up across the
adjacent seats, my hand in hers, her hair right under my nose with the scent of
Swiss vanilla and cocoa. It was seducing me quickly. She could smell my cologne
and she was being seduced by it. There’s just no end to the attraction.
“I
got you something.” She said as she sat up. “I almost forgot about it.”
“You
got me something?” I said surprised.
“Yes,
I sure did.”
She
rummaged through her purse and grabbed a box. Excited, she turned to me and
held the box in front of me. She had a huge smile on her face and I could see
as clear as day that this meant a lot to her. I opened the box and smiled. I
picked up the necklace and looked at it. It was solid white gold. The locket
was made out of god knows what, but it was stunning. Easily a 7 figure value.
“Considering
you’re still married, I can understand if you don’t want to wear it. But I just
wanted to…”
I
leaned forward and kissed her in mid sentence. I was blown away. I mean we’re
talking a 7 figure gesture here. Wouldn’t you be amazed?
“I
don’t care if I’m married. I will never take this off.” I put it on. “You got
my style and everything. Thank you, Allie.” I kissed her again.
“I’m
glad you like it.” Still with a huge smile on her face. “Open it.”
I
looked down at the locket and opened it. The picture was of us from when we
were at Six Flags the summer before she left. It was that summer that I took
her virginity. It was that summer that our relationship really began. It was
that summer that I fell in love wit her but was too much of a dumb ass to act
on it.
“Kenny?”
She called, noticing my facial expressions change. I looked up at her. “Are you
ok?”
“I’m
sorry.”
“What?”
“I’m
sorry. I—I don’t know what I was thinking.” I said in confusion almost.
“What
are you talking about, baby?” She asked. That’s a good question.
“I
should have acted. I should have did everything I could to be with you. Instead
I was so into the idea of being single and getting ass. I let another woman
brainwash me. I had the perfect woman all along and I turned you down. I’m so
sorry, Allie.” I was on the verge of tears. She immediately embraced me and
didn’t let go.
“It’s
ok, boo. I’m not close to being upset about what transpired. We’ve had so much
fun together over the years. More than I could have ever imagined.” She put her
hands on my face and looked me in the eyes. “I have no regrets. I have no
disappointments. I’ve had you, still want you, and that will never change.
You’ve made your decision to be with me. You’ve made me the happiest woman in
the world.”
“I
should have made you happier years ago.”
“But
it’s okay. Maybe this is the way it’s supposed to happen. Just to see if it’s
all real. Look at us, baby. We can’t keep our hands off each other. If we got
together back then, who knows where we’d be now.”
“You’re
right.” I started to hear something.
“I
know I’m right.” She said.
The
noise I was hearing started to get louder. I then started shaking my head and
laughing.
“What’s
so funny?” She asked me.
“Listen.”
She started listening and eventually heard it as well. “They don’t waste any
time.”
“My
sister was always a screamer.”
“They
could have at least waited til we got off the ground.”
Yes,
the jet was taxiing at the moment. A few minutes later, the plane took off and
we were on our way to the nation’s capital.
“As
much as I want sex, I really need to rest.” She confessed.
“Thank
you. I need the exact same thing.” I admitted. She laid back against me like
before. “Allie cat?”
“Yes,
Ken doll?” She replied. I smiled.
“I
want you to change your flight from tomorrow to the next day.” I requested.
“I’d
be more than happy to.” She said without hesitation. “You remember that guy I
introduced you to last year?”
“You
introduced me to a lot of people last year. You’ll have to be a lil more
specific.”
“The
one that tried to sway you into buying his clothing line.”
“Oh
yea. Paul Rosco, right?”
“Yep,
that’s him.”
“What
about him?” I wondered.
“Well,
he approached me about a couple months ago and wanted to know if you were still
interested.”
“Right.”
“I
told him what you told me. How he didn’t have the track record to really show
growth.”
“Yea.”
“He
was so sure that his line would take off. So I backed him.”
“Why
would you do that?” I asked.
“I
don’t know. I went with my gut. I wasn’t fully positive about it, but to my
understanding, he only needed a few million dollars to really get going. I
thought it’d be a good investment.”
“What
happened?”
“It
turned out I was right.”
“How
so?”
“Ever
heard of Liair?” She asked me. That’s pronounced lee-air.
“Yes
I have.”
“That’s
it.”
“You’re
kidding me!” I said shocked as hell.
“Nope.
Not one bit.”
“That’s
his line?!”
“Yes
it is.”
“What
did you earn from that?”
“I
don’t have a final count, but we’re easily over 8 figures and creeping into 9.”
She replied.
“That’s
insane. I didn’t think it’ll pop like that.”
“You’re
right, it wouldn’t have. Alessa pitched in a lot and we put our heads together
for marketing.”
“That’s
amazing baby girl. I’m proud of you.”
“You
taught me a lot. I see what you do with your company and I have no choice but
to learn.”
“But
still. You took a risk that I wasn’t even goin to take.”
“It
seemed stupid at first.” I sat there in awe for the few seconds of silence.
“Baby, I want to ask you something.”
“Anything.”
“Your
family is the richest in the world. Your wealth is divided among millions of
businesses and at least a hundred family members. Tell me, what is your actual
net worth? How much money do you have sitting in your account?”
“I
never broke that down for you?”
“Never.”
“Well,
it’s quite simple actually.” I began. “All the money we make from businesses go
into the SJ Enterprise business account. As for everyone’s individual accounts,
they consist of only actual income. My account consists of my basketball
salary, SJ employee salary, earnings from movies and music, and endorsements.”
“Sounds
massive.”
“It
is quite massive. I’m easily worth about $14.8 trillion dollars as of right
now. Don’t feel bad though. A lot of my cash is locked up in things. In my
account that I can actually spend is a little over $243 billion.”
“That
much? How is that possible?” She asked as she sat up and looked at me.
“My
basketball contract is $100 million per year. I make about $43 million per year
with SJ Enterprise. I get 30% of the profit from all my movies. Depending on
the album, I get a max of 90% and a low of 20% of the profits on that. And I’m
rolling in endorsements. I get at least 8 figures for each one. I’ll say I make
about $173.45 billion per year.”
“What
endorsements do you have? Name a few.”
“Almost
all of SJ merchandise. Me and Will are the poster boys for that. Throw in a few
of my own products. I mean there’s a lot of things we get paid to promote.
Companies we bought out I promote for sometimes.”
“That’s
amazing. You’re just so business minded.”
“What’s
your net worth nosey?” I asked.
“Only
$649 million. But that’s on the rise after this thing with Liair.”
“That’s
quite impressive all things considered.” I replied. I turned to the side and
looked out the window. “We’re here.”
She
sat up and leaned over me to see. The scent of her quickly gave me a chubby. We
could hear Will and Alessa get back to their seats as we began our
descent. The pilot made the announcement
and Alisa sat in her seat. She took my hand into hers and kissed it. I wrapped
my arm around her and she laid her head on my shoulder.
When
we got off the aircraft, we got into a waiting limo and headed down to the
first stop. We checked out everything from the Lincoln Memorial, to the Washington Monument , to the Capital, Pentagon, and
White House. We were able to get tours of everything. We saw things that we
knew we weren’t allowed to see. Then again, maybe Will and I were. We do have
the highest level of security clearance.
When
we finished, we decided to walk to the hotel that we were going to stay at.
Hand in hand, Alisa and I walked behind Will and Alessa. We couldn’t hear them
talk, but we could see that Will was telling a funny story. Alessa couldn’t
stop laughing.
“This
hotel we’re staying at,” Alisa began, “have you stayed there before?”
“Nope.”
I replied. “It’s supposed to be the best in the country. Will’s brother owns
it.”
“Why
doesn’t that surprise me?” She said.
A
moment of silence breezed through like a gust of wind. It was a comfortable
silence. A silence that some would use to reflect on what exactly is going on.
“So
what are we doing tomorrow?” She asked.
“Not
sure yet. I tend to take things one day at a time.” I told her.
“Oh
really? Since when?”
“Since
always.”
“If
you say so, Mr. Johnson.”
“Yes
I do say so.” I let go of her hand and wrapped my arm around her. “You wanna go
to dinner first?” I asked her.
“I
want to change into something a little more presentable first.”
“I
agree.”
At
that moment, I could tell we were being followed. I didn’t do anything sudden,
just waited for the right opportunity. That’s when a car rolled by and a big
flash followed. Photographer. The man tried to rush into the car. I ran to him
and grabbed his arm before he could close the door. The man was frantic. He
yelled to the driver to drive and to me to let go. The car started moving, and
I started running. As hard as I could, I pulled. The car sped forward without
the man. In pain, I stood over him.
“What
the fuck do you think you’re doing?” I asked him. “Don’t you know it’s illegal
to take unwanted pictures?”
“You’re
the one committing adultery. Your wife has a right to know about it.” He
replied.
“Is
that right? I also have a right to kick yo ass up and down this street.” I told
him.
“For
a picture?”
“OHHH,
now it’s just a picture! I thought you were being noble.”
“Fuck
you!” He spit in my face. I wiped my face and smiled.
“That’s
assault, which makes this self defense.”
I
hit him one time in the jaw. He was out cold. I took his camera and smashed it
on the ground. I looked up and Will was looking right at me.
“You
good?” He asked me.
“Yea,
let’s go.” I replied.
Alisa
approached me and we continued to walk on like nothing happened. We got to the
hotel a few minutes later to change. For once, we didn’t actually have sex. We
just showered and dressed. An hour later we were ready to go to the restaurant
for dinner.
Upon
being seated at the restaurant, I immediately ordered the most expensive bottle
of wine and some shots of liquid cocaine. When the waiter brought our drinks,
we held our shot glasses up.
“I
want to say,” I began, “this is truly one of the best days I’ve had. The only
thing missing is my daughter and niece. Other than them, I’m with every single
person I love with all my heart and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
“And
I feel exactly the same way.” Will agreed.
The
smiles on Alessa and Alisa were heartwarming. We knew how they felt without a
single word being said. We all tapped glasses and took it to the head. I
motioned to the waiter to bring two more rounds. Will opened the wine and
poured us glasses.
“Man
we’re gonna get drunk.” Will stated. “My liquid cocaine tolerance is a little
low.”
“Mine
too.” Alessa agreed.
“I
think all of ours are low.” Alisa stated. “I think the last time we did these
was at our birthday party.”
“One
of the best parties we’ve thrown.” I proclaimed. “We got completely faded that
night.”
“Beyond
faded.” Will added.
The
waiter brought 8 shot glasses and set two down in front of each of us.
“We’re
ready to order, sir.” Will told him.
He
took down each one of our orders and bowed before leaving. We tapped glasses
and took round two to the head followed by sips of wine.
“Oh
my god I just know I’mma have a hella hangover tomorrow.” Alessa stated.
“Thankfully
we’re not going home tomorrow. I doubt I’d be able to make that flight.” Alisa
said. “No time to bitch up now.”
She
picked up the next glass and looked at me. I smiled at her and picked up my
glass.
“You
know better to challenge me.” I told her.
We
looked into each other’s eyes and waited to see if someone was going to back
down. In the corner of my eyes, I saw Alessa and Will pick up their glasses. We
tapped and took it to the head. The waiter came by to drop off our appetizers.
Perfect timing. He sat down more shots at the same time.
“Compliments
of the manager.” He said. We looked at him.
“Who’s
the manager?” Will asked.
“Laura
and Irene Shroud.” He replied. Will and I looked at each other.
“Who?”
We both repeated.
“They
will greet you in a few minutes. I was just told to bring you these drinks.”
“Thank
you.” Alisa said for us, realizing we were in thought. The waiter departed.
Alisa and Alessa looked at us. “Seems you two have more admirers.”
“Seems
that way.” I agreed.
One
of the things that happens more often than not is the tendency for things to
hit me and Will at the same time. This was one of those times. We looked at
each other and shook our heads. We softly said the names followed by a chuckle.
“I
take it you remember.” Alessa assumed.
“They
graduated from our school. One of the many seniors we messed wit as
sophomores.” Will explained. “They were born eight months apart so they were in
the same graduation class.”
“They
were the only chicks that played hard to get and won.” I admitted. “For 9
months, we tried and failed.”
“The
most we did was kiss.” Will added. He looked at me, “how far did you get?”
“She
let me touch it for like 5 seconds while we were kissing.” I told him.
“Were
they gorgeous?” Alisa asked.
“No
doubt. I can’t wait to see if they’ve changed.” I replied.
We
started eating our appetizers as Will and I thought more about Laura and Irene.
Our main courses arrived as well as more drinks. We ate and chat about other
things and that’s when the wait ended. We didn’t realize it at first until they
spoke.
“How
are you enjoying the meal?” Laura asked us. We looked up and was speechless for
a second.
“Fantastic.”
Alessa answered for us. “Thank you for the drinks.”
“Our
pleasure. I hope everything is to your liking.” Laura stated. Will and I smiled
and looked down. For some odd reason we were actually shy.
“How
long have you been managing here?” Alisa asked.
“For
a few years. We’re the managers and owners, but we like to just use the manager
title.” Irene replied. “What brings you to D.C.?”
“Touring.
We’ve never been, so we wanted to take the opportunity.” Alisa said. Will and I
took a shot of Jagermeister to the head. I cleared my throat.
“It’s
really nice to see you doing well, Irene.” I finally said.
“You
too, Laura.” Will added. “We’re surprised you both remember us.”
“You
shouldn’t be.” Laura said. “Please enjoy the rest of your meal. Hopefully we’ll
talk before you leave.”
“Thank
you.” We all said. Will and I watched them walk away.
“Amazing.”
Alisa stated. “I’ve never seen the two of you clam up so bad.”
“But
you are right. They are gorgeous.” Alessa continued.
“Haven’t
really changed that much.” I stated. “Just got a mature vibe.”
“Which
is a big turn on.” Will added.
More
drinks were sat down on our table, courtesy of the managers/owners. I looked at
Alisa to see what was going through her mind. She didn’t have a look of distain
or disappointment. I didn’t even see a hint of jealousy. What I did see is what
I never expected to see. I also didn’t expect what would happen next.
“Baby,
can I talk to you for a minute?” Alisa asked me.
“Yea.”
I
finished chewing and wiped my mouth. I stood up and followed her into a
secluded area. We looked around and noticed no one was around. I was expecting
the worse.
“I
need you to be honest with me.” She requested.
“Always.”
I replied.
“Do
you regret not being able to fuck her?”
“Yes,
I do.”
“If
I wasn’t here with you, would you try to?”
“Yes
I would.” I could tell she was thinking.
“I
want her.” She stated. My mouth dropped. I don’t know if I was confused or just
blown away. “Yes, you heard me correctly. I want her.”
“She’s
really that gorgeous to you?” I asked.
“She
is. I also want us to share the experience.” I started smiling.
“I
don’t think she’s bisexual.” I told her.
“Doesn’t
matter. I want her.” I smiled and slightly chuckled. I kissed her lips.
“You
got it, baby.” I said softly. She started smiling.
We
walked back to the table and continued eating. When we finished, Alisa and I
headed out to the dance floor. We did a little tango, salsa, and old fashioned
slow dancing. It was more of a competition between Will and myself for tango
and salsa. Either way, we put on quite a show. When we got back to the table,
our check was waiting. I picked it up and put enough money in the sleeve to pay
for the check and a nice 200% tip. We got up and walked over to the bar. Laura
and Irene joined us. They started drinking with us and we all were talking. I
peeped out the body language. Alisa was doing a lot of whispering in Irene’s
ear and then they’d both laugh.
After
talking for a few hours, Laura and Irene agreed to come to our hotel after they
close up. Don’t get ahead of yourself, they agreed because they wanted to get
into a hot tub.
“So
what you think?” I asked Alisa as we walked back to the hotel. “What’s it
lookin like?”
“I
think you know the answer to that.” She replied. I started smiling.
“You’re
good.” I told her.
“I
want you to watch though. I want you to watch me until I invite you in.” She
requested.
“You
got it.” It goes without saying because I love to watch her. After the first
time, I liked her skill.
When
we got to the hotel, we started preparing for Laura and Irene. I had a few alcohol
selections and Alessa got the hot tub going. An hour past by when we heard a
knock on the door. Alessa answered it and invited the two ladies in. We greeted
each other and I started pouring drinks. As I was doing that, Irene and Alisa
were talking.
After
a few shots, we all got into the hot tub. Will and I were across from each
other, but as the girls talked, we started to think the same thing. They were
going to succeed. The laughing, the flirting, all of it was pointing to the
same outcome. Who was going to make the first move? How long would I have to
wait to find out? I decided to move next to Will.
“This
is awkward.” I whispered to him.
“I
know. We’re usually a little more engaged then this.” Will whispered back. “I
don’t know what to say or do.”
“Exactly.
I really have no idea if I should join in their conversation or not.”
“I
tell you one thing. Alessa is so sexy to me right now.”
“I
heard that.”
“Kenny?”
Irene called. I looked at her. “How long are you going to make me wait to see
it?”
“Pardon?”
I said a little thrown off.
“I
want to see it. Never got to in high school so I want to see it right now.” She
clarified.
“You
too, Will.” Laura said. “At the same time.”
We
looked at each other and shook our heads. We both killed another shot and stood
up. Almost at the same time, we whipped it out. We both looked at the four
ladies as they looked at both of us.
“I
don’t know, Alisa, I think they’re the same size.” Irene said.
“I
think Will’s is slightly thicker.” Laura stated.
“I
don’t think so.” Alessa said. “They really do look the same size.”
“Now
that you have that figured out, are you done judging the size of our dicks?” I
asked.
“Judging,
yes.” Laura said.
“Ladies,
how about we take this to the bedroom?” Irene suggested. “Men, come with us.”
We
all stood up and grabbed a towel. Will and I started to think that this wasn’t
going to end up like we thought. It started to feel familiar. Laura and Irene
were teasing again. Teasing the hell out of us too. Either way, we all
proceeded to the bedroom. Laura and Irene brought in chairs.
“You
two are sitting here. Keep things the way they are.” Laura said.
We
looked at her and then sat down. Music started to play. Something soft and
smooth. We watched as the four women danced with each other. Stripping each other’s
clothes off, kissing and licking…the absolute sexist thing we’ve seen. We
watched as the dancing stopped and the foreplay began. Moans filled the room,
each one full of satisfaction. It went on for at least ten minutes. Laura and
Irene approached us. They took our hands and led us to the bed.
The
following afternoon, I woke up in between Irene and Alisa. I turned to the side
and saw Laura, Will and Alessa in the other bed. My head was pounding. The best
threesome in my life, but I had the funny feeling that things were a little bit
more crazy then that. I couldn’t remember exactly. I went into the bathroom to
splash water on my face and took some Motrin. A few moments later, Will walked
in. I handed him the Motrin and continued to splash water on my face.
“Do
you remember everything that happened last night?” He asked me.
“Not
really. You?”
“For
the most part.”
“Let’s
see……we had a massive threesome that lasted for hours. A lot of alcohol was
involved as well.”
“Threesome?
That’s wishful thinking.” He stated.
“Why
you say that?”
“Man,
your memory is fried. We switched on Laura and Irene for like ten minutes.” He
reminded me. I thought about it and started to smile.
“That’s
right, I remember now.” I then thought about it some more. “Oh shit!”
“What?”
I thought about it more and more to come to the conclusion.
“We
also accidentally mixed up the twins.”
“Get
the fuck out of here.” He didn’t take me serious.
“Swear.”
“How
that happen?” He asked.
“I
don’t know. It just happened.”
“I
hope I came in the right twin then.”
“Yea,
we’re golden there. But for like 5 minutes I was wit Alessa and you were wit
Alisa.”
“How
do you know?”
“Cuz
I remember stopping when I realized it didn’t feel right.”
“It
took you 5 minutes to come to that conclusion?”
“I
was drunk nigga. Hell, you didn’t even come to that conclusion.” I told him.
“You
ended up stopping and fucking Irene again….I remember now.”
“I
tried to play it off so I didn’t traumatize them.”
“Which
is why you told Laura to take me.” He added. I nodded in agreement. “Thank god
we didn’t fuck each other.”
“I
know, right.”
We
finished up in the bathroom and walked back into the room. The four women were
just getting up. Laura and Irene were getting dressed.
“Leaving
already?” I asked.
“Sorry,
we really need to get home. Our husbands are already pissed.” Laura replied.
“Didn’t
know you were married.” Will said.
“You’re
not the only ones to get married young.” Irene said. “When are you divorcing
your wives though?”
“Very
soon.” Will replied.
“Good.
These two are definitely more suited for you.” Irene proclaimed.
“I
hope the next time y’all are here we can meet up again.” Laura said. They
walked up to us and kissed our cheek. “In my opinion, you’re both even in size
and skill. I couldn’t tell the difference.”
“Me
neither. We’re sorry it took us so long to finally come this far. Then again, I
doubt it would have been as good as now.” Irene added.
They
turned around and kissed Alisa and Alessa before leaving. I approached Alisa
and sat next to her.
“You
ok?” I asked her.
“Never
been better.” She replied with a smile. “That was absolutely amazing. I can’t
wait til we do it again.”
“Amazing.”
I said, shaking my head. “You know, I couldn’t pay Monique to experience with
another woman.”
“Yet
another reason you love me.” She kissed me.
“Yet
another reason.” I repeated. We smiled at each other.
“Lay
with me.” She requested.
She
took my hand and lied down. I lied down with her and had my arm wrapped around
her. A comfortable silence deafened the room. Well, except for Will and Alessa
doing whatever they were doing. Every once in a while, Alisa and I would
chuckle. Overall, I was at peace. Not one bit of aggression or negativity was
in me.
“Kenny?”
She called in a soft tone. Turned me on a little bit.
“Yea?”
I replied.
“Are
you trying to tell me something?”
“What
do you mean?”
“You’re
poking me.” I thought about it and started smiling.
“Sorry.
I wasn’t really telling you anything. Holding you like this feels so good.” I
explained.
“I
agree.” She reached down and touched it. She turned her head to me and started
kissing me.
Two
hours later, we were dressed and ready to check out. We took a limo to the
airport to fly back to Cleveland .
When we boarded the jet, we sat in the same spots as before and in the same
position.
“This
was fun.” Alessa commented. “We should definitely do this again.”
“No
argument here.” Will said. Alisa and I nodded with our eyes remaining closed.
“Y’all want a drink?”
“Nah,
I’m good.” I replied.
“Me
too.” Alisa agreed. Alessa and Will got up to get a drink before takeoff. Alisa
kissed my cheek. “I love you baby.” She whispered to me.
“I
love you too, Allie.” I whispered back. I kissed her lips and held her.
We
got to the hotel in Cleveland
at about 6 in the evening. We ordered room service and a few movies on demand. We
proceeded to play Taboo after all of the movies. It was basically a competition
to see who knows the other better. The twins versus “the twins”, which Will and
I were sometimes called. As close as it was, Will and I pulled away at the end.
It was about 1am when we called it a night. Will and Alessa proceeded to their
room and Alisa and I cuddled up in ours. Of course we had sex again before
actually falling asleep. If you had a woman like her, you’d have sex wit her
every chance you got too. Asshole.
The
next day, Will and I took the twins to the airport. Alisa and I hugged each
other, not wanting to let go. Her smell was turning me on in more ways than
four. We gazed into each other’s eyes. Her beautiful light brown eyes and sexy
lips had me solidifying my decision to be with her.
“Call
me the second you touch down.” I told her.
“I
will.”
“Have
a safe flight. I’ll see you in a few weeks.”
“Ok.”
We
kissed one last time. As she started to walk away, we kept holding each other’s
hand. Like a scene from a movie, our fingers slowly inched apart. I watched her
leave until she was completely out of sight. Will stood next to me, feeling the
exact same thing I was feeling. We turned around and left the airport.
Putting
our plan into action, we stopped at SJ Enterprise to see Dad and Uncle Tevin.
When we got to the office, we had to wait til they got out of their meeting.
Normally, we would flirt with the sexy secretary, but the desire just wasn’t
there. Minutes later, the doors opened and several men walked out. We walked in
and saw Dad and Uncle Tevin looking out the window.
“Boys,
glad you’re here.” Uncle Tevin said. He stood between Will and me and wrapped
his arms around us. He led us to the window and pointed. “See over there?” We
nodded. “We just bought that space.”
“For
what?” Will asked.
“Not
sure yet.” Dad stated. “But it’s a good space and we’re going to use it as soon
as we figure out in what way.” Will and I laughed. “So, what brings you here?”
“Well,
you said whenever we want a divorce we should come here.” Will said.
“Yep,
sure did.” Uncle Tevin confirmed.
“Well,
we want to divorce our wives immediately.” I told them. They looked at each
other then at us.
“Where’s
that coming from?” Dad asked. “Y’all just had a kid. I thought they were your
soul mates?”
“Not
even close.” Will said. “You’ve seen how we interact. It’s not even close.”
“You
remember Alisa and Alessa?” I asked.
“The
twins….yea, I remember them.” Uncle Tevin said. Dad nodded in agreement.
“They
are our soul mates.” I told them. They looked at each other, smiled and shook
their heads.
“Your
mother was right.” Dad said. “You should have chose them and saved yourself
grief.”
“We’ll
get everything done. Give us a few weeks. Word of advice. Don’t tell Monique
and Beyonce til the last minute. We’ll give the ok.” Uncle Tevin suggested.
Will and I nodded.
“Thanks.”
Will said.
“We’ll
see ya.” I said.
We
left the building and went home. Instead of going in the house, we went around
back to the jungle. We checked everything to ensure health. Both of our phones
started ringing. The twins were calling to let us know they landed in Houston . We talked to
them for an hour before they had to go. When we hung up with them, we looked at
each other and shook our heads.
Several
weeks pass when we finally get word. It was time to break the news. We decided
to hold off until the twins were in town. They had a flight that evening. Their
household goods were already on the way. Will and I were beyond excited. Time
felt like it paused on several occasions throughout the day. I swear it’s been
noon for three hours. Their flights are coming in late because of a going away
party their company had for them. We worked out to try and pass by time. Didn’t
help. Played video games. Didn’t help. Everything we did felt like it ate up
only five minutes. Even the nap we took. We’ve never been this excited for
anything. As I lied in bed, my cell started vibrating.
“Hey
beautiful.” I answered, knowing it’s Alisa.
“Hey
you. I was just letting you know that we’re on our way to the airport.” She
informed me.
“Excellent.
I can’t wait til you get here.”
“Me
neither. I can’t believe this is happening.”
“You’re
not getting cold feet, are you?” I joked.
“Hell
no, are you crazy? If anything, I can’t get there fast enough. I’m so wet right
now.” I stood at attention when she said that and I don’t mean me in general.
“I
look forward to seeing the proof of that.” I replied.
“Oh
don’t worry; there will be more where that came from when I see you. I have
something I need to tell you too, but I’ll wait til I see you.”
“Are
you sure?”
“Absolutely.
I must see your face when I tell you. I’m not sure if you’re going to be happy
or not, but I want to see your reaction regardless.”
“I
don’t think anything you tell me would make me unhappy.” I assured her.
“I’m
glad you have so much confidence in me.” She joked.
“Yea,
yea, yea, just don’t let it get to your head.”
“Never
that. I’m about 10 out, so I’ll call you when we land.”
“Ok
baby girl. I love you.”
“I
love you too.” We hung up wit each other. I lied there smiling and just in awe.
At
about 1015 that evening, I get a call on my cell. Their flight wasn’t due in
for another hour and a half. It was a Houston
area code though. I answered the phone.
“Is
this Mr. Kenny Johnson?” A woman asked.
“Yes
it is.” I replied.
“I’m
Julie Martin at the Central
Emergency Hospital .
I’m calling to inform you that Alisa Michaels was in a very serious car
accident. She’s in very bad shape right now.” My heart felt like it stopped.
“What
happened?”
“She
was hit by a drunk driver. You were listed as her emergency contact. I
understand you’re in Cleveland ,
OH , so do you know anyone that
may want to come here?”
“I’ll
be right there.” I told her.
I
hung up the phone and ran out the hotel. Will was right behind me. They were
riding together; of course they are both in critical condition. I called Ma and
told her what has happened. A private medical jet was prepped for us. Ma came
with us to Houston
to see what she could do.
When
we got there, we were immediately directed to their room. The second I saw her,
I broke down. I knew this wasn’t going to end well. I felt it in my heart. Ma
read their charts, looked at both of them and talked to the doctors. Will and I
sat next to our soul mates and held their hands. When Ma came back, she sat down
and looked at us.
“Give
it to us straight.” I told her. “Leave out the details.”
“Well,
with the extent of their injuries, I highly doubt they’re going to pull
through. Miracles have happened, but I don’t see this being one. I don’t see
them making it through the night. I’m sorry, guys.” She got up and left.
I
took Alisa’s hand and kissed it. I looked at her face. The bruises only
distorted her a little bit.
“I’m
so sorry, Allie.” I cried. “I should have gotten you out of here in the
morning. My impatience is going to kill you.” I kissed her forehead. Her eyes
slowly opened.
“Ken…ny?!”
She struggled to say.
“Shhhh,
don’t talk baby.” I told her. “Just rest.”
“I
know I’m dying.” She struggled. “I held on until you got here.” Tears streamed
down from her eyes. “I’ve never regretted anything until now.”
“I
do. I regret not being with you when I should have been.” I told her.
“It’s
ok. You’ve made me happy in so many ways.” Her heart monitor started beeping
more. “But I need to tell you this.”
“Tell
me what?” I sniffed.
“I
was pregnant with your child.” She cried. I buried my face in my hand and cried
a little bit more. “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s
not your fault, love.” I said, kissing her hand. “This was a pure act of God.
It’s not your fault.”
“I
love you, Kenny.”
“I
love you, Alisa.” I said. I kissed her lips. I felt her kiss me back….. Then
she wasn’t. I heard nothing but a flat line. “ALISA!!!” I cried. “ALISA!!!” I
looked at her and then the monitor. “NO!! Not like this!!!”
I
got on the bed and held her in my arms. I never cried so hard in my life. I
looked over at Will as Alessa was barely hanging on. Then I heard her flat
line. His crying made me cry even more. Monique was calling my cell for the
fourth time. I grabbed my phone and threw it across the room. I took my gun out
and seriously thought about ending it all right there. I put it to my head and
hesitated. Will looked at me and wasn’t even thinking about stopping me. Tierra
flashed across my eyes. I put the gun down and continued to cry.
Minutes
after she died, Ma did confirm that she was pregnant. She basically
“miscarried” from the impact. We had their funeral in Cleveland a few days later. Will and I paid
for the entire thing and for their family to come. After the funeral, Will and I had them buried
in a secret location that we visited every day. On our way to D.C., Alisa gave
me a necklace that had a heart locket and our picture inside. I wore it every
day. I also got a new tattoo on my chest. The only woman that has her name on
my body
The
drunk driver survived the accident with minor injuries. While he was released
on bail, Will and I found him and didn’t just kill him. We took our time
beating him, torturing him, making him feel every bit of our pain inside. After
three hours of torture, we finished him off.
Yea………the
driver was Dave. From his confession, he just wanted to talk to Alisa. A
confession that meant absolutely nothing to me.
PRESENT:
“What
do you mean?” I asked her as I wiped my eyes, snapping back to the present.
“I
thought your heart always belonged to me.”
“Alisa,
my heart did belong to you.” I replied.
“Did?”
“Does.
It still does. I will always love you and no one will ever replace you. But I
know deep down you want me to be happy and you know Sydney makes me happy.”
“Don’t
worry; I didn’t come here to break your balls about that.” She smiled.
“Then
why are you here?”
“To
prove a point. You’re losing your mind, baby. Hell, you’re talking to me and
I’ve been dead for years. You haven’t seen me in your dreams since Sydney came in the picture.”
“What
are you saying? Do you think she’s replaced you?”
“Am
I wrong?”
“You’re
on two different levels. If you were still alive, I’d be with you without a
doubt. But you’re not.”
“Do
you really think she is?” She asked me.
“Yes,
I do.”
“Then
why are you thinking of me?”
“I’m
not.”
“We’re
talking.”
“You
came to me out of nowhere.”
“I’m
in your head, baby. Why would I come to your mind?” She pointed out.
“I
don’t know.”
“How
about the fact I’m your first true love that’s been taken away from you prematurely?
Just like the fact your current true love has been taken away from you
prematurely. You feel that you can be married to someone that doesn’t make you
happy for so long but when you get engaged to someone that actually completes
you, they get taken away from you.”
“I
can see that.” I agreed.
“I’m
waiting for you so we can start our next life together. Until then, you must
enjoy this one. She is filling that void that I left. She completes you like I
used to. For that reason, I’m telling you to not give up.”
“Alisa.”
I took steps towards her. “I don’t know what else to do. I’ve run out of
ideas.”
“That’s
what you think, baby. Use the love that you have for her to find her. Take away
the blame you’re placing on yourself and try to just think about how to find
her.” She started walking towards me. “I know a big part of you blames yourself
for what happened to me. Just like you’re blaming yourself for what happened to
her. The biggest lie I can ever tell you is that I’m in a better place because
that’s bullshit. There isn’t a better place then right here with you. The thing
is you can’t blame yourself, baby. You can’t feel guilty for something you had
no real control over.” She placed her hand on my cheek. It felt like she was
really touching me. A touch I haven’t felt in years. “Sydney is alive. You know it. I know it. Now
is the time to find her.”
“You’re
right, Alisa.”
“Aren’t
I always?” She smiled, as did I. “I love you
baby and can’t wait to be with you in the next life.”
“I
love you too, baby girl.”
At
that second, I snapped back. I looked around and noticed I was staring at the
note still. Alisa. Why did she pop in my head like that? I opened the
refrigerator and looked for something to drink. I grabbed the orange juice and
closed the refrigerator. The second I turned around, I saw Sydney looking dead at me. Scared the shit
out of me to a point I dropped the jug of orange juice. I bent down to pick it
up and when I stood back up, she was gone. I looked around and saw no one.
“What
the fuck is going on?” I asked myself aloud.
“You’re
breaking down.” Sydney
replied. Sydney ???
I looked behind me and saw her sitting at the dining room table.
“You’re
not here.” I said softly. “You’re not here.”
“No,
I’m not here. I’m merely a figment of your hallucination.” She said.
I
turned around and poured me a glass of orange juice. I filled it up to the top
and quickly drank it. I then poured a second glass and drank that just as fast.
When I turned around, she was gone. I need to lie down. I put the orange juice
back in the refrigerator and sat on the couch. I turned on the TV to ESPN and
lied down.
I
looked up at the ceiling and started thinking about the upcoming basketball
season. I didn’t have a lot of time to get this settled, but things weren’t
looking good at all. I deeply sighed and looked back towards the TV but ended
up staring into the eyes of my lost love.
“You’re
not getting enough sleep.” Sydney
said to me. Not even startled, I blinked twice.
“How
can I sleep? You’re not here with me.” I said softly.
“That’s
because you won’t allow yourself to deal with the truth.”
“What
truth is that?”
“That
you’re giving up.”
“I’m
not giving up.” I assured her.
“I
don’t see why you shouldn’t.”
“How
can you not see that?” I sat up.
“You’re
right, I do see it.” She walked towards me and sat down. “Kenny, I need to be
honest with you. This is not a dream.”
“That’s
what you say until I wake up.”
“Well,
ok, technically it’s a dream, but you’re not dreaming about talking to me. You
actually are talking to me.” She clarified. I looked at her with an expression
of doubt.
“I’m
serious. I’ve been trying to establish some kind of connection with you for a
long time. I finally broke thru.”
“Are
you dead?” I asked her.
“No.”
She said as she put her hand on my face. “I’m not dead, baby.”
“Where
are you?”
“I
don’t know. I’m unconscious or maybe in a coma. I keep hearing voices. Maybe
three different men.”
“How’d
you escape the car?”
“I
don’t remember. I heard the click and got out.” She got closer to me and looked
me in the eyes. “I know you’re having a hard time believing me, but it’s really
me.” I swallowed hard. I was in disbelief, but I knew it was really her. I
immediately embraced her.
“Thank
god you’re ok!” I cried as tears streamed down my face. “I miss you so much.”
“I
miss you too baby. I wish I could help you find me, but I don’t know anything.
Please, don’t give up on me.”
“I’ll
never give up on you. For as long as I live, I won’t give up on you.”
“I
know you won’t. I love you, Kenny, with all my heart. I have faith in you.”
She
kissed me like never before. Nothing could compare to it. When she stopped, I
could see tears streaming down her face. I wiped the tears from her eyes.
“I
love you too, Sid. With all my heart. I will find you. Don’t give up on me.”
“Never.
It’s just so hard being away from you and not be able to help you. I feel like
I’m doing this to you…like I’m hurting you.”
“No,
baby. It’s me that’s letting you down. I will do whatever I can to find you.” I
knew time was running out and she was about to leave me. “I’ll find you baby.
Whatever it takes, I will find you.”
“I
love you.” She said, kissing me again. Before I could respond, she was gone.
When
my eyes opened, it was dark outside and ESPN was still on the TV. I was still
on the couch. My mouth tasted like I had Winterfresh gum….the same gum Sydney chews all the
time. It really was her and not just another dream.
“I
love you too baby.” I said softly as I felt my lips.
